The one in Omeath that we use is the Top branded station. Diesel yesterday was 69.9 sterling. I've forgotten the euro price but did the conversion yesterday while at the pumps.

I was in Donegal yesterday and prices were around 103.9 cents per litre for unleaded and the same for diesel - about 72p i think. the price has jumped 4 cents in the past week

Thanks for the replies, could I just pour in a few litres of cooking oil them into the tank and it would work OK

Cooking oil might be OK in an old oil burner, but I wouldn't put it in my high performance 130BHP TDI Skoda Fabia VRS!

Diesel might be expensive for you in Ireland, but your talking prices which we can only dream about in the UK - average price over here is 1.30 Euros !!!!!!!
  • Has anyone ever noticed the colour of the diesel one of the stations in Omeath sells? I take a couple of tubs whenever I know I will be in the area, but on a couple of ocassions the colour has varied from a slight green tinge to an almost flourescent green. I have never seen 'green' diesel so can't compare them, but I was under the impression that the proper road diesel should be clear. If they are putting green diesel in their tanks, then they are cheating the customer over pricing, and the customer is also at risk for driving a road car with green diesel.

It's about the only thing that is cheaper here, compare the cost of insurance, electricity etc etc to the "mainland" Uk.

  • Petrol buyer myself, so can't say I've noticed photoman. But you could report the matter to Irish Tax and Customs, and let them have a look at their books.

But then you don't have to plan an international trip to get your car filled......:;)

Would consider it, but then again as far as I know it's against the law for me to transport an extra 25/50 litres of diesel in tubs in my car. Something to do with not being licenced to transport fuel. Given half a chance, I would go out and fit a towbar and then buy a bowser.

In Omeath, the fuel is generally dearer in the Emo station on the right hand in the middle of the village. About 300 yards down on the left, there is a shop (beside the graveyard) with 2 pumps. Normally about 5 cent cheaper per litre. Small family business too, and I'd rather give them the trade.

I used to use the TOP station in Omeath until I had a few bad fills of diesel, so I always use the EMO one when I go down, think it's worth while paying that we bit extra for some better quality diesel....

Photoman, I think transporting 25/50 litres of diesel is OK as far as the customs are concerned, the BIG problem is when you expect to carry that amount of petrol in plastic cans...
