Supply and demand especially diesel & heating oil in cold winter0 -

The oil is broken down into its various constituents...amd not sure of exact percentages.......but lets say....its naturally "cracked" into 25% petrol/30% diesel/45% other components.
If there is a bigger demand for diesel say for 40% of oil content...then it costs a lot more to convert/crack the oil into this type of product...hence it costs more to produce and then sell......
I stand to be corrected by a petro-chemical type!0 -
I think diesel might still be cheaper in RoI despite the euro rate...could be to do with how it's taxed or something....0

demand for diesel has increased over the last few years as more people buy diesel cars, as far as I know the main european refinery is Rotterdam which has a set amount of capacity for producing diesel, as more people buy diesel cars more diesel is demanded by customers, however the supply hasn't increased as they haven't had the capacity to do it so following the law of supply and demand if more people want it, stick the price up.........I think I read there are plans to increase diesel production capacity soon........although obviously price of oil etc also contributes to it as does the extra 3p environmental tax Mr Brown levied on it a few years ago......................Norn Iron Club Member #64

Diesel in Donegal is actually about a cent cheaper than unleaded per litre! Dunno why it's about 10p moreper litre in the north if it is all to do with supply and demand!0 -
