  • You guys are gonna love this one! My local filling station beside Iceland on the Doagh Road, Newtownabbey is now, wait for it........ Unleaded 88.9p per litre! When did we last see that sort of price. Diesel is now at 103.0 p per litre which is the closest to the £1 per litre that I've seen for diesel yet. But as has already been said by others on this thread - why the big gap??

    why the big gap?

The reason is that when the refinery splits the oil into its various fractions there is an optimum ratio of diesel to petrol that can be extracted from the crude oil. Also Diesel is a popular fuel in Europe so there is high demand (and its growing) so that combined with the fact that it will be more expensive to get more diesel out of the oil means the price for diesel is higher.
  • Diesel was always cheaper and then it became about 1p a litre dearer, but this current price differential of + 15-16% is a pure rip-off. It hasn't just suddenly become more expensive to produce it. Also, is diesel not cheaper than petrol on mainland Europe? Higher demand......... so let's make a killing, methinks.
  • I've noticed in some of the newspapers today that some retailers are cutting diesel to 99.9p per litre from today. Anyone spotted any N Ireland forecourts under the £1 per litre for diesel?

Tesco Ballymena had diesel 99.9 today

  • The BP filling stations on both the Belfast road in Carrick and at Clipperstown had diesel at 99.9p per litre, unusual I'd have thought for BP to be so low. Also Tesco in Carrick was the same.

  • Sainsburys in Sprucefiled are 99.9p a litre for diesel, independent garage on the Stewartstown Rd also 99.9p.

    About f**king time!
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

  • Doagh Road, Newtownabbey - Diesel 98.0 and Petrol 88.9.
  • Sainsburys Craigavon still 101p for Diesel everywhere else 99p. Unusual as Sainsbugs is normally the cheapest around.
