I live about 25 miles from the border, crossing it from armagh.
Does anyone know the price of diesel in middletown these days? I used to refuel up there a few years ago (with a few gerry cans in the boot) before it became unviable. Just wondering what it was like now, given its so expensive here....
Hi Paul,
i think diesel is about 143.9 euro... well it was in the last two weeks anyway0 -

Hmm. Not worth the expedition then. Even if filling up, with six 20 litre jerry cans in the boot - ie, around 200 litres, thats only a saving of around £35. Subtract maybe £7 for getting there and back = £28.
Only viable currently then if you lived really close to the border.0 -
Yep is around 141 143 cents per litre so not a great saving unless you are close. UK VAT registered makes it cheaper to buy in the North as it's difficult/impossible to claim back Irish VATDave0

If you don't think saving £28 is worthwhile then you've obviously no need to be using this site!0 -

€1.44 = £1.15
so work it out yourself, if its worthwhile considering distance etc.0 -

Did you read what i was saying?
To get that sort of saving i'd have to take 6 jerry cans with me in the boot (which pc plod would take a dim view of), and take the car up there pretty much on empty.
Then you're into the realms of filling the car from a jerry can on the street / driveway, plus the cost of the jerry cans in the first place.
Then factor in it is probably a 1.5 - 2hrs return trip, probably at a weekend, how much is a couple of hours of your weekend worth?
That amount of fuel would last me a month or so, so i'd be saving 90p a day by doing it. Sounds like a lot of hassle for 90p a day does it not? Easier just to drive a bit less.0 -
