Jackie is a tonic (with or without the gin
) and no mistake!
The only minor health problem I've got at the moment is the sore throat that decided to materialise just after the start of my singing lesson  I was singing like crap so we cut the lesson short, and my singing teacher was ever so sweet and only charged me for half a lesson :A I get mates' rates as it is, cos we'd known each other for years before he started teaching me.
I'm currently cooking this, inspired by the need to use a carton of cream I'd bought reduced. I think it should freeze OK in portions - it smells yum. Bit of comfort food before bedOperation Get in Shape

Oooh Rzl, what a great recipe:D I still have some of the maple syrup I brought back from Canada left:think: Must use it soon, think I'll try this one:D
Did I mention CHELSEA just made the Champion's League Final? You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Ironically the one ingredient I didn't have was the maple syrup - had to buy it specially.
Ignore the fact that it says you need a knob of butter. Do you see that anywhere in the method? No - didn't think so!
Ooooh, oven timer is beeping :j
Edit: it's now under the grillOperation Get in Shape

You must report on the taste! You do realise what a cruel thing it is to talk about a rice pudding at this late hour?:rotfl: Far too late to start one, but I can ALMOST taste it
You wouldn't fancy putting a portion in a taxi I suppose?

I can try emailing it to you, CM - but not sure it would work

Hello Guys and Gals well thank you all for your kind wishes and thoughts All went swimmingly this morning and I have a CT scan to come next Tuesday, then they will take my Groshon Line (Chest infusion line that I have had attached to me for the last three months) out on the 12th May Yippee no more blurry bits stuck onto my body, and my r/therapy starts as planned on the 19th May.It finishes on the 16th June and I am hopefully going to Norfolk for a week at the end of June with my pal whom I went to the US with last year. How much has changed since then, I have learned to be
1. To be a 'patient' patient ( a good thing for me as I was always in a rush)
2.To appreciate the small things in life (like having a shower on one leg as half of me has to hang outside the shower so my line doesn't get wet) hilarious if you saw this old dear who only has one 'proper' working leg anyway cos of arthritis.:o :rotfl:
3.To forget the 'why me ' when I was first diagnosed. When you walk into the chemo unit and see how many other folk there are there who are also thinking the same, it humbles you a bit.
4. To appreciate just how hard those nurses work and how much they really do care for all of us .
5.To find out who really are your friends ,not only the ones that you know, but the folk that you will probably never meet in the flesh ,but none the less do care about this dotty old dear in North Kent.
I have only got through this with all their support, and a darned good dose of stubborness.
I have met some amazing people through the breast care unit and the local cancer support folk ,all of whom have been there and we seem to develope a wicked black humour that helps us through. I do sincerly wish that I could tell you how much this site has helped me,at times in the night when I couldn't sleep through aches and pains and worrying as is normal but also when I was 'hughieing down the loo and felt like death warmed up  It was great to sit on my computer at 4.00a.m. and talk rubbish to someone on the discussion board or just add a daft comment when I saw something that made me chuckle.:rotfl: I tell all my friends that this site has been the saving of me .Even soppy StudentPhil and his ramblings have made me laugh.I have seen folk come and go, and sadly some of them have lost someone as well, either through death or divorce, and its as though we are one big family with all the dysfunctional bits thrown in.
I'm the daft old Granny in the corner sticking my two 'pennorth in at times and most people either agree or don't, but its their perogotive.Touch wood, I don't think that I have offended too many(if I have tough) though and I have enjoyed seeing the Mums having their offspring and then posting photos on here.More little Old Style Money savers.I wonder if Martin realised when he started what he was creating with this site I have had advice about cleaning and some great recipes (I made Twinks hob-nobs the other week and all of my tribe loved them) I have saved a few bob and learned such a lot
So now its onwards and upwards, and in June I will hopefully get my life back to relative normality ,I shall go and see my tutor and see if I can get back on my CCS course at UNI in September, and also I want to maybe do a history course as well if I can. I have so missed my adult-ed and look forward to returning.
Best of all I will be able to return to the health club, and start back to my swimming, although I may be going round in circles for awhile until I can learn to swim with a slightly restricted arm movement (think large floppy duck with one working wing ):rotfl: That will be me for awhile I think But life is good and I intend to make the most of it .
My hair is a bit like a five o'clock shadow at the moment or as my lovely eldest grandson said 'your head feels like a peach Granny' Bless him he is lovely as are all of my brood.
I really am a very lucky person
God Bless you all :A :A
P.S Bargain Rzl Blackpool was great and I think of you whenever I here Nessum Dorma Nelski was great we really stashed the Vino away on the last night didn't we0 -

CM - rice pud is yum:drool: I couldn't leave it to brown too well on top as it set the smoke alarm off and I didn't want to disturb the neighbours... but it wouldn't have formed a proper "rice pud skin" anyway.
P.S. it's got more the character of a lemony sort of puddingthan a rice pudding anyway. The combo of lemon juice and boiling milk obviously means it curdles and ends up textured rather than creamy, but that's not a bad thing.
Drizzle maple syrup on top to serve - it's not very mapley otherwise!Operation Get in Shape

I'm soooo pleased to hear it is yum
I don't like skin anyway:p I can stay up a bit longer for the taxi delivery service, unless that is, you're a greedy, selfish girl who's KEEPING IT ALL TO HERSELF:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Ha, minicab to Eltham about £15 I'd say? Total cost of pud, oooh about £2.50 if that (would have been more if it weren't for the reduced cream
)
So MAKE IT YOURSELF

OK, I shall try it myself:rolleyes: I have a rather large *flask* of maple syrup in my fridge, so topping it off with maple syrup will not be a problem;) Just for info, I don't think I saved that much by bringing it back from Canada:o ( especially when you consider the *excess baggage* charge I paid:o :rotfl: :rotfl: From now on, all my maple syrup will be purchased from Waitrose.:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0
