You can still join! Even if you dont have a target to stick to, make a start and keep a spending diary. It will help you to pull in the reins on your spending. Its far more effective than you at first realise. good luck!

  • Just updated sig. Bought 3 packs of chicken pieces for £6.98. It was buy 2 get one free, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Also had to buy some more milk...... Like the sound of the yogurt cake, but I don't have any bicarbonate of soda. Is there anything i can use instead of this?

Just off to update sig! I spent just under £11 in Asda yesterday on woopsie bread, fresh fruit & veg, milk and cheese.

I also spent £2.80 on 2 seperate visits to the local shop. We had the kitchen/dining room wall taken down and the builder had the electricity off for most of the day and I couldn't get to the sink so I had to pop out for drinks and OH requested chocolate!!

i got an adjustable knife from lakeland and it's great, but they seem to have stopped doing them, but if you go on to ebay and type in 'adjustable bread knife' there are a couple for sale.

I got my bread knife in Argos for just under a fiver. It has 2 sets of blades with it-they are great for HM bread! I also use it to slice chicken turkey, any tinned meats-all sorts of things.

I had a nospend day today-will update my sig later but I know Im doing well this week.
Im going to put up a "waste list" on my wall again to alert people to what they are wasting. This helps with the challenge as everyone is much more aware of what it is costing and I am more aware of the cutbacks I should be making.
The favourite is ketchup at present-apart from mayo. Squeezing out a great big blob and only using a spoonful! Last time I did this list the waste was dramatically reduced-even though we are all quite careful generally.

Today we have spent another £11.00 on:

2 x Warburtons Wholemeal sliced bread
    green beans
    carrots
    spuds
    cucumber
    hot dog rolls
    hot dogs
    2 x TTD Ham
    butter
    onions
2 x bottle fizzy flavoured water
    4 x creme caramels
    cranberry sauce
    salad cream

...didnt think that was too bad from Sainsburys. Total now at £33.00 and should have enough for the week now. Have got 3 cornish pasties out I found lurking in the freezer..so will have that with roasties and veg for tomorrow.

Hi everyone - hope you enejoyed the lovely weather today. It was another NSD for me and I think I can last out till Friday before buying any more food. I made a batch of twinks hobnobs yesterday and a chicken and rice dish which we had for supper this evening. DH was out for lunch and I got a free coffee from the machine at work which was nice. While tonight's veges were cooking I cooked the potatoes to top a shepherd's pie ready for tomorrow (I had taken the cooked mince out of the freezer already) - I love my steamer as I can cook several different veg at the same time and save money.

DH and I need to lose a bit of weight and I am tempted to try the South Beach diet - though I am a bit worried about the effect it might have on our GC as it seemed to concentrate on meat and more expensive protein while the relatively cheap foods such as bread and pasta and potatoes are a no no. Not sure if we should go down that route, but I have to do something as while I am not really overweight (BMI is 20-21) I have just had a cholesterol test result which is 7.3 - a bit on the high side. I am surprised as we do eat heathily - lots of fruit and veg and fibre and hm stuff - no pre-cooked pies or chips or pasties etc. Oh well, we'll have to see.

Off to bed now. Night night everyone.
  • Still drinking faaaar too much wine :o I should be on a different thread for that I think.

I put my tomatoes out when they were only a couple of inches tall - no flowers yet, they are now about 7 inches tall and not dead yet. However, my cucumbers both died :(.

OH volunteered to go to the village rip off merchant for milk last night. Amazingly he came home with just the milk (first time ever!). Think I'm finally getting through to him!

He even phoned yesterday to say the job he was doing was taking longer than planned and as he wasn't far could I drop him lunch off rather than him nipping to McDonalds. I ended up taking chairs and having a picnic in the sun surrounded by sheep and horses.

:wave:Blimey. Late on parade as usual!

    650+ posts already???

We went a bit over last month but I'm not too heartbroken as it could have been tons worse. My work pattern changed for a few weeks and so the menus changed to fit. (everything had to be *much* quicker.)

I found a really helpful book which marries up quite a lot of OS with lots of shortcuts which I find invaluable when I've got less than 45 minutes to cook, eat, help with homework, advise on boy / girl trouble, feed the cat and glam up for my second job before flying out the door again.

Can I aim for £250 this month as well though. I'll get there one day! (When one of the kids leaves home maybe! :D )

    Big Love to all!

    Love Jacks xxx :D

PS Forgot to say: The book is called

"How to Feed Your Whole Family a Healthy Balanced Diet, with Very Little Money and Hardly Any Time, Even If You Have a Tiny Kitchen, Only Three Saucepans (one with ill fitting lid) And No Fancy Gadgets- Unless You Count the Garlic Crusher..."

I think that's what it's called anyway! By Gill Holcombe.

    morning all

well. i should hopefully have an NSD today , but i've got to take Ruby, my littlest yorkie to the PDSA today. She's hurt one of her paws, and is only walking on 3 legs. i always give them a donation, as i don't have to pay for treatment there, but i save 5p's for emergencies like this.....and no, i don't hand over a hot little hand of 5p's!! i get it changed before i go!

was hoping to have a baking day today, but will have to see how things go

hope everyone has a great day.......looks like its gonna be a warm one again :D
