Just got back from Sainsbury's with this week's shop and I have come in £10 under budget, whic I am pleased about BUT I forgot a couple of things like dried apricots which my DH eats everyday (a healthy snack instead of making cakes) and I know I will need to buy more bananas before the end of my month next Thursday. Still if I manage to stay under the target even if it's only pennies I shall be pleased.
I didn't see any useful 'whoopsies' on my way round the shop, but as it was late and I was tired I didn't spend too long searching. I can't believe the price of eggs - £2.99 for 12 free range ones. I have a friend at work who has hens which are just beginning to lay - I think I will have to ask her to save me some!
Oh well, off to bed. Goodnight everyone.0 -
Quick update; did a quick shop, and as expected I have gone over budget. Not good for my first try. I will not beat myself up too much as it did include a large BBQ last week, plus tonight I bought a few things while on offer, which will be used next month. Stocked up on snacks, etc as we have a 3 day craft fair over the weekend, the kids usually spend loads in the refreshment tent, they will be banned this year, Lol.
Mr M had some good offers, Napolina x4 chopped toms BOGOF, H2O fruit shoots 4 pk £1, Gold Blend Coffee 200g 2for £6, Princes Apple juice BOGOF, lettuce is a bit cheaper than last week too.
Don't know if I will manage to end of month, will try my best.0 -

OMG They are really expensive even when on offer. Have you tried own brand or value chopped tomatoes? There really isn't much difference except for the price. I'd recommend reading this Take the downshift challenge its a really good way of reducing your grocery spends without buying less. HTH

Hi Nikki
I am trying the brand changes gradually, Mr M own crisps, weetbisc, fruit n fibre, biscuits, flours, ketchup have gone down ok, tonight bought mayo 70p cheaper for lge jar than the brand we had. I do not like their pickled beetroot or tin fruit though. It's just a matter of trying isn't it?0 -
Why don't you buy tinned whole toms? It takes (less than) a minute to chop them! That's such a bug bear to me! Sorry! It could save you a fair but tho? Why don't you try it and see if you notice a difference in taste?2022 Comp total (prizes + free spins): £494.81 #20 £12 a day Jan: £382.95/£372 #57 360 1p challenge: £17.70 £10 a day Feb: £571.09/£280 March: £311.96/£3100

Also does milk freeze better in cartons or bottles- or does it make no difference?
Thanks

Hi feline, not sure if anyone has already answered this for you, as not at the end yet, but Cartons would definitly be best (expanding, glass and explosion springs to mind! ). Someone did say to me to take a bit out first, have a coffee or something, so that there is room for the milk to expand, but I forgot first time, so had a very big, bow-bottomed carton when I first did it - have learnt now:rotfl: .
A great place to buy containers is a local 99p shop if you have one (there are various ones around, poundsaver, £1 store, etc). Our local one does 20 of those cartons you get from chinese meals (I think that's where you get them, I've never had one myself......:p ) for ..... 99p..... Ideal for freezing single helpings of stuff, they also do other containers but word of warning when buying cheap pots, make sure the lid fits properly...LBM April 2013 - £29,000.00Vanquis CC's PAID - Debenhams SC PAID - A+L OD PAID - Asda CC £783.75Barclaycard CC £1400.78 - BoS CC PAID - Freemans Cat PAIDF/D Loan & CC £1458.96 - Santander Loan PAID - Mum Loan PAIDRBS OD PAID - F/D OD £1026.52Weekly Grocery Challenge - £95.00 budget / spend £-0 -
Of couse you can have the recipe.
says on recipe you can get 10 out of mix but i got 12;)
9oz (250g) plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 large ripe bananas
1 egg
2 1/2 oz (70g) brown sugar (can use caster instead)
2fl oz (50ml) vegetable oil
1oz raisins (i used mixed dried fruit)
I also added some milk to make the mixture abit slacker, it was quite thick.
sieve the flour, baking powder, bicarb, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and put to one side.
Place the bananas in a bowl and mash, i used my hand mixer but you can use a fork.
Add the egg, sugar and oil and mix well.
Add the dry ingredients and mix well again. Finally mix in the fruit.
Fill muffin cups 2/3 full.
Bake at 190oc/gas 5 for 20/25 minutes.
I have tried replacing the fruit with chocolate chips and also tried it with some walnuts, both times they turned out really well.:D
Thanks for this, just wondering though, most of the recipies i've seen with bananas in them say use overripe bananas, we never have any bananas left in our house to go overripe, they are eaten within a couple of days usually - can you use nearly ripe bananas?LBM April 2013 - £29,000.00Vanquis CC's PAID - Debenhams SC PAID - A+L OD PAID - Asda CC £783.75Barclaycard CC £1400.78 - BoS CC PAID - Freemans Cat PAIDF/D Loan & CC £1458.96 - Santander Loan PAID - Mum Loan PAIDRBS OD PAID - F/D OD £1026.52Weekly Grocery Challenge - £95.00 budget / spend £-0 -
