Just a quick update, have changed siggy already and now read all of the threads. Not sure where all the money has gone, but will check out the receipts and see if I can come down any more. It`s a constant battle with the food prices going up all the time, as well as petrol(although seperate budget for petrol). Not sure I will come under budget this month, have a feeling I will go over as the half term is almost upon us, but we shall see. Was hoping to try for £250, but I will proberly stay at £300 for next month(will let you know MrsM at end of month). I think I will have to re-think my planning and maybe try meal planning for a whole month instead of weekly, do one big monthly shop and then just get fresh items on a weekly basis. Wondering what other peoples thought were. Anyway off to pick the kiddies from school.

    Hi there,

I do a monthly meal plan (2 adults and 2 kids). Then I order my monthly Mr T online and stock up with fresh stuff every week. I also plan snacks for the month, as this I seem to need lots too. Saves the emergency buys in the local overpriced shop!
I find it easier this way.

Had a bad day today - my sons teacher is a silly cow on a power trip over a 6 year old - not what I need at the moment.

A NSD for me - did have to get some bits for DD's party on Saturday but have a separate budget for prty and pressies. Also finally found her the Lelli Kelly shoes she wanted so she is a happy girl :)

Hugs to anyone who needs them.

Got this recipe fromoff one of the threads on here but can't remember which one.

    MILLIES COOKIES

    3oz butter
    3oz granulated sugar
3oz brown sugar (can just use all white granulated, works just fine)
    vanilla essence
    1 egg
    6oz s/r flour
    pinch salt
    4oz choc chips

    Preheat oven to 180c.
    Mix all ingredients together.

Put spoonfuls on greaseproof paper and cook for 11 mins precisely.

Cookies should still be soft when they come out of the oven, they will harden a bit.

Peel off greaseproof when they cool.

    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

    Hi all

Just popped in to ask a question - seems too simple to ask on the green fingers board so hope you forgive me!! Inspired by the price DH paid for a lettuce last week - £1.20:eek: I planted 2 seed trays; one of 'spicy salad leaves' & the other of lettuce. Both trays have sprouted well - especially the salad leaves - but what do I do now?? Do I leave them in there (they are pretty crowded) or plant them out into the garden - if so, when do I do that?

ps - just read through that & it sounds really daft, but I don't want to ruin all the good work!!
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear

Thanks Egon, I have tried a monthly shop before(a few month before finding this site), but never worked out because I never planned for the month, just picked up what I thought I would need and use. So I think for next month I will try it again and see how I go with that.

I`ve learnt so much with bulk cooking, using cheaper alternatives, how to stretch things to go that bit further and how to use any left overs lurking about, that I think and hope I`m a little bit wiser. It`s all thanks to everyone on here:T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T

Today I`ve used most of the large pack of carrots, that were lurking in the fridge and made a lovely carrot soup, DS1 loves this so I know that won`t get wasted and will freeze any that is left. Also had a couple of cooking apples, so used one in a bread and butter pudding and maybe freeze the other if I don`t use that.

Anyway off to read some more. Good luck to anyone starting their June challenge and well done to everyone who has been doing the May challenge.

  • evening all,

managed an nsd today, got my free milk in MrS

got to make a choc cake today, going to try the wacky one as my boss is allergic to eggs (ok i'm sucking up)

am trying to decide how much to cut our budget with for next month, i think i migh knock £50 off it as we have soooooooooooooooo much in our cupboards and freezers i reckon i can do it if i make all our own bread and only use the free MrS milk (6 pints and counting in the freezer)

i think this month may be ruined :( by my trip to lidl this weekend for loo rolls

Do you have a tub you could transplant them into? even an old washing up bowl with holes in the bottom would do ;) (i use allsorts) I have just moved some more of mine.. I start them off in the pots you buy carrots, strawbs etc in...

You just need to poke a hole in the compost -i use a chopstick, gently lift the seedling ... wiggle underneath it with and old fork or something- you can wait until the 1st true leaves appear if you like. If you are going to put them into the ground i would cut some old pop bottles, yogurt pots up into deep rings and put 1 around each one if you can... the slugs and snail can destroy the whole lot before you get up the following morning  ...
I was up at 5:30 this morning so went out for some air and captured 24 slugs just on their way back home from trying to get at my veggies  they all went on the bird table ;)

Spent a whopping £1.49 today:D Had a NSD on groceries mon/tue/wed. Shouldnt need anything else til sunday, i'm still just about on track:o
Mr T may have thrown a spanner in the works though, he sent me a voucher for £6 off a £40 spend which has to be used by the 1st of June, so i may have to go over budget slightly to make use of it:confused:
