Just popped on to update siggy - £4.08 in Lidls on onions, sugar & milk and £3.57 in Tesco for cooking apples & 2kg value mince - I know the recipie for Cottage Pie say's very lean mince, but I microwave my mince in a large bowl for 15 minutes or so (until cooked throughout, you might have to stir sometimes if a lot in there) then I rinse with boiling water in the colander and it comes out quite lean, as most of the fat has been washed away - much cheaper too (even though you end up with slightly less mince at the end)nice to see lots of folk making the hobnobs, you know it makes sense
at about 40-50 from the recipe you know whats in them and you can add nuts etc to them
gunsandbanjos must be a good recipe if you have it too
Twink, thank you so much for this recipie. I have now made about 55 from one batch (all different sizes, he he) but everyone loves them so it's great fun, something for all to nibble on when hungry between meals without eating me out of house and home and at a fraction of the cost! how cool is that
Also made Cottage Pie along with Parsnip and Apple soup - NumNumNumNumNum - it was GORGEOUS. everyone full to the brim when finished and nothing left on platesPlus I have frozen 5 more servings of each.
I just want to say a HUGE THANKS to everyone on here - I used to love cooking, then after 19 years of marriage, you get bored with the same-ol-same-ol of quick, convenient meals and you forget how enjoyable it is to create something.
I now have my old enthusiasm for cooking again, and am driving them all mad indoors now as there is always washing up everywhere (DS has to keep emptying and filling the dishwasher - it's a hard life :rotfl: ) and DH has the housewife he always wanted - Yea, right, well, I'm not THAT enthusiastic.....
Thanks again for all your support, I couldn't have done it without this forum, and I certainly couldn't have gone into Tesco for 2 items and only come out with the two items - twenty more like it! You all deserve a round of applause :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :TLBM April 2013 - £29,000.00Vanquis CC's PAID - Debenhams SC PAID - A+L OD PAID - Asda CC £783.75Barclaycard CC £1400.78 - BoS CC PAID - Freemans Cat PAIDF/D Loan & CC £1458.96 - Santander Loan PAID - Mum Loan PAIDRBS OD PAID - F/D OD £1026.52Weekly Grocery Challenge - £95.00 budget / spend £-0 -
Hi everyone
Have been keeping up with the thread just about and have realised I have not added any of this months spends. Currently £117.57 spent so £57.43 left, hopefully I will come in on target this month and not go horrendously over like last month.
Take care

8oz sr flour
8oz sugar
8oz porridge oats
8oz margarine
1tbsp golden syrup
1tbsp hot water
1/2 tsp bic soda
mix flour, oats and sugar, melt marg, syrup and water in a pan stir in bic soda and add to dry mix, mix well, make smallish balls and put on greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork, 180oc for 15 mins, cool on the tray, you just want them golden in oven not brown-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
i dont mind at all as i am no good with links, just to say mind to just melt the marg gently you dont want it too hot and i usually add dried ginger to mine but dd adds cinnamon as her ds is diabetic and the cinnamon is supposed to help regulate blood sugar levels plus the porridge oats make it a good biscuit for him to have at snacktime0
