  • I can kind of see where he is coming from to be honest, if he has been doing overtime etc, working harder, maybe he deserves a treat?

My OH will be buying GTAIV today, and whilst its £40 that would be better spent elsewhere, he really wants it, and its going to keep him quiet for months on end, meaning that he would rather be in playing that than be down the pub !!!!ing money away.

Maybe you could think of it that way, £30 on a DVD is not too bad if in watching them etc, you save more on not going out. And when he has finished watching them you could always sell them on ebay or amazon and pay that money off your card...

I see it that if you let yourself have little treats (ours mainly is money to go for a drink on a Friday lunch) then you are less likely to splurge. If you deny him his £30 DVD you could come home to find that he has 'rebelled' and spent £100s on the things!!
  • Hi Jak,

I know exactly what I mean. My OH was buying bits to sell on but now the stuff has dried up, so I think the £100 we have to buy stuff with should be used to buy off his CC where as he thinks he should keep it just in case there is something else to buy at some point in the future!!

I'm worried about our tax credits at the minute, as I under estimated our income, so I know I'm going to have some to pay back, I had been hoping for a back payment so I could have glasses but now I'll be really struggling, however my OH wont listern when I try to tell him!!

Sorry I have taken over your thread with my own moaning!!!

    I hope you don;t mind

Don't worry Bfly! I know how you feel. It's weird having different priorities to someone you love. I think that's my main problem really.
I just can;'t understand how he'd even consider buying it- while he can't understand why he s/wouldn't!!!
I don't want him to have nothing to show for his work, I just hope he understands that this is IT this month! He seems to think- got paid- must shop!!! B*****y annoying!

Let us know if you win the bid
  • I need new glasses which will set me back c 100 as I now struggle to read in the afternoon with my current ones but will I spend the money? No i'd let my OH spend £150 going to europe for a day oh and £75 on a golf club. I happy for him to have/do both but why cant I reason with myself to spend money on something important?

    Must be a female thing!

Hi and thank you for starting this thread, thought I was in the minority with a dh that suffers from pps(peter pan syndrome!) Mine used to earn very good money got made redundant earns a third of what he used to, outgoings are still the same I cut back but he still spends! His head isn't in the sand he cemented it in just incase he gets a light bulb moment lol. I just took a stand over not giving in over spending money for him when he goes golfing with his mates for a couple of days he threw his toys out of the pram "I'll cancel it" etc, I think yes I'm getting through but his mum says dont cancel I'll help you ARGH!!!!! Dont beat yourself up over the dvd its not worth the tension go for a compromise, if he's having a new dvd maybe he has some dvds he'll let you put on amazon/ebay, take care;)

To be honest if its over time it should be his unless you are struggling to eat!

You say he is selfish because he wants his DVD and yet you want his overtime for your credit card - OK it sounds honorable paying a card off but what sort of things did you put on the credit card in the first place!

My hubby has the chance of regular overtime and because its him getting up an hour earlier to start I have told him he can have it in a savings account to save for a guitar he wants.

Its the age old on this board argument - and nagging ain't going to make him see the light - I would rather overtime went on lesiure than money you need to live off.
