I had an elective two years ago. And although yes its painful at first I was also in pain after I had a natural birth with my first child, nothing pain killers won't help. Out of the two my best experience was the elective. It was organised, controlled and above all the most relaxed elative experience I've ever had. I was terrified about the needle in the spine the most and also the thought of being awake but I needn't have worried apart from some strange sensations it really was not bad. Not really got any tips other than make sure you keep moving while obviosly not over doing it and above all enjoy!! I hope your ceasarian goes as smooth as mine because I haven't anything negative to say at all the whole experience was amazing!!!
  • It's about to get SOOO good!!! (And knackering!) Good luck! Take all the help you're offered!

Have to say that although you have discomfort you dont have all the grot after the birth and that was such a relief.(I mean the blood loss etc that seems interminable).

sorry to be nosey but isn't there blood loss after a CS? it has to come out somewhere doesn't it, or am i being dozy? lol! when i had my baby 7 weeks ago there was a very young girl who'd had a section. i'd never have known it, i met her 2 days afterwards and she was out of bed, dressed, hopping around, walking long distances (to smoke outside), not on painkillers etc. and she was sympathising with me thinking she had it easy because i had the blood loss etc. in the same place as my scar. when you have stitches, a tear without stitches etc. it's difficult because you're so messy, they tell you to air the wound and keep it clean but if you're losing rivers of blood you have to keep yourself well padded. i don't think everyone is as chirpy as she was after a section though, if she hadn't shown me her scar i'd never have believed it lol!

  • Not really advice I'm afraid, just what happened to us. Our second baby was in the same position as yours, the doctors had tried to turn him but that had been unsuccessful, the the day before the cs he decided to turn himself!!! So we had a natural birth after all.

Just thought I'd let you know, it might still happen!

It all depends on how the procedure has gone, some people need a drain.

I was one of the lucky ones, they tend to be able to suck away any of the excess gunk just before they stitch you up, but you do still bleed, but more in a way of a heavy period. I think I ended up finishing my bleeding a few days before my natural birthing friends.
  • I bled for 6 weeks after my section. Then again 6 weeks later for a couple of weeks. (Not a period - I was feeding him every hour at that point including nights.) I don't think it was painful, but I had some very good pain relief for the first 2 and a half months so I couldn't say for sure. :T (For other reasons, nothing to do with the section.)

The surprising part (maybe because I haemoraged? sp?) was the erm lemon sized lumps that plopped out the first couple of walks I did. The lovely midwife dealt with it but it was a bit unexpected!

I believe any very large clots need to be reported to a midwife just to make sure everything's okay.

  • Not so sure I am looking forward to the lemon size lumps...!
Off for a last supper in a bit, can't see much sleep happening tonight -
or even again now come to think of it!
    Kind regards all,

Really loose pants that come right over your belly button.
    Something for water retention.
    A portable TV (no comedy).
Do not go near anyone with a cold before your op - nothing worse than coughing after.
    Fruit.
    Fruit juice/cordial.
Someone at home for the first two weeks.
I was told not to take Arnica before my section as it can cause excess bleeding.
  • A lot of hospitals won't let you take a tv in now because they like to charge you extortionate amounts to let you watch the one they've provided. (Along with a phone you have to pay a small fortune to use.) Grrr!

I think a lot of hospitals don't let you take anything in which has to be plugged into the mains ... electrical safety and all that.
