im looking at doing something on the side, but a work mate did and got into trouble, we're both computer engineers and he fixed pcs in his spare time, but was told by our company they have paid for training and using it outside of employment for profit is against company rules, and if he continued he would have to repay the training fees.
the best bet is to branch out and do something different. i still wash a few cars and do a bit of gardening (only problem is no income in the winter).
i also do a few online surveys, and have earnt £25 in argos vouchers, and also use my tesco clubcard for company fuel, earning £35 a quarter in vouchers. which is £140 in deals!!!Debt at highest (april 2005) £19000
Current Debt (september 2006) £7600
Mortgage Pig = £31.43 and we move in on Friday (6/10/06)
:j £2 savings = £22 started 1/9/060 -

How can a company really enforce what you do in your own time? I could see a company getting strong arm about things if work was being poached from them for personal gain.0 -
I'd check staff handbook, and see if there's anything in there about this. If not, stuff 'em, depending on how much you like themDoing my best as a contrarian investor...property, banking...let's see how it goes0

I have a music website starting shortly which needs promoting. If you have computer access and can network within various forums, websites etc then its as easy as that. For every generated lead that becomes a paying member, you receive 20% which is £1. Dont sound much? Well in 4 months I have got 18000 subscribers prior to launch and I work fulltime!
Easy to get 10-15 an hour interested and if they sign up then thats an easy £10-15 you have made whilst networking and probably enjoying some good music. No limits as to how much or how little, can fit in with any other work and not confined to Engalnd either, so all time zones apply.
If interested and need some more info please message me.0 -
What do you do with those great ideas that we all have which we're sure would make a mint but don't know if they have any value and if they did how to take them futher?
I have a few simple ideas which could be good but don't know where to take them. I'm no Trevor Baliss or James Dyson but there must be away.0 -

I make £250 to £500 per month working no more than 10 hours per week in my local village. This is something anybody can do and for hard workers and those willing to work more hours and follow the simple plan given to you, the sky really is the limit. See my website and leave me your name and address and phone number for full details. This really works and the company is British with an 80 year history, making profits every year. You could be making money from your first weeks. Want extra money for Xmas?

My dog passed away a couple of months ago and I started doing dog sitting. I don't go into people's houses, they bring their dog to my house when they go away on holiday. I do this through a company, but if you advertise in the paper I am pretty sure you can do it on your own and find clients.
The company charges the clients £13 a day per dog (of which I get £9 a day, the other £4 goes to the company to cover for insurance, advertising, costs etc...). You are only allowed to have 2 dogs if they are from the same owner and all the dogs food, treats etc are provided by the owner.
Ever since I joined I have been booked every day! This has worked out at about £270/month! (one of the owner was so happy he even gave me a £30 tip!)
I used to leave my dog with someone when I went away and he was so happy about it that when he passed away I decided to work with this company just to be able to have dogs around without having the emotional (and financial) commitement.
The other thing I've been thinking about is dog walking, although haven't really looked into it yet. I know people charge £5 and hour / a walk. so there is pretty good money to be made.

Exactly. It's called "conflict of interest". I work for a computer company and would get into big trouble if I sold my services elsewhere as a computer consultant/technician/whetever as it would be breach of contract. However, if I were to sell handmade birthday cards then there wouldn't be an issue as there's no direct conflict with my employer.--Simon.0
