Can you get work from their competitors as well?ZTD wrote:There may be opportunities in the various regional development quangos and promotional quangos, but that depends on whether you'd like to go back to doing your "old" job.
Never. I am never, ever going back into PR. 15 years of fending off journalists picking holes to find a story is enough for anyone. For anyone who thinks that PR is about Eddy and Edina in Ab Fab, it ain't unfortunately - well, not at the sharp end of public service PR!!!!
It's just a case of it being a tough few years re-building my career. It's just a bit of a grind I guess.
I've worked out that to pay the bills, have £200 a month for food, petrol and MOT etc and not have to do AQA as a 'necessary' part of my income, I'd need to be on a salary of 19k minimum.
It's a case of keeping the hatches battened down, see what happens work wise (there is the possibility of a job change next year with some changes afoot) and seeing how quickly I can get some teaching work if all goes to plan with this course - that won't be much money, but I'll need 30 hours under my belt to do the next stage.
Guess I was just having a few thoughts today of - if the work crap hadn't have happened, I'd have been in a job I enjoyed and I'd have hit 30k this year - and I'd have still been debt free as that was all done and dusted before I was made redundant.
All character forming, I guess........."Stay Wonky":D

keren it won't be long until you are back up there earning squillions, you have made a massive step by going back to work and i am assuming you are enjoying it too, baby steps and all that.
i read most of the pages of what we were on about the other night so i have more of an idea of what i'm waffling about now:p
you have done bloody well :T0 -

thankyouMaybe my confidence is coming back quicker than I anticipated with the job, the course etc - I wouldn't have been able to do all this 4 or 5 months ago.

Totally agree with jacs Keren - your confidence seems to be building by the day. Good for you!
I'm currently fighting with myself over whether or not to book a holiday, it would put my DFD back a couple of months which might not seem too much but I want it gone!Mortgage OP 2025 £7050/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

yes, but they are a smaller outfit with less questions so even less money would come my way - i've just worked out, I'm probably doing a 50 hour week already.
I was thinking along the lines of "as well as" rather than "instead of". Just remember whose window you're typing into.Never. Well again, there are various kinds of PR, and some are more padded than others. Promoting youth engagement or areas of outstanding natural beauty is not going to get many journalists interested. But it still within your areas of skill.
Have you thought of developing your website skills? That can pay quite a bit, and can be done on a freelance basis. It's just a case of it being a tough few years re-building my career. It's just a bit of a grind I guess.
Yes, it will be.All character forming, I guess.........
