18866 3p connection charge

No not really.I personally would keep all options open ,and use the one that suits you best at the time.Just in case 1899 goes up.
If i had to use just one of them and i didnt have an autodialler i would plump for 1899 because of its cheaper mobile calls, and the fact if you misdial 18866 you can get an expensive DQ service.
The recent Which report, and resulting publicity is unlikely to have helped them as they will probaly gain a lot of customers just wanting to make cheap 01/02 calls.Even at 3p connection i would suggest they are not making much, if any money on this side of the business.PF.0 -

Is there a DQ service on 11899(0) ?? - If so, is this as expensive as the 118866 one ?
Thanks

Hi Daniel.
According to https://www.ukphoneinfo.com the code 118990 is allocated to the Isle Of Wight Cable Company DQ.
Glad to see your site is doing so well.

It is an absolute disgrace that they are fully capable of emailing us the invoices promptly but keep these price rises quiet for us to discover them through forums like this.
But it didn't start at 1p/call, it started at 1p/minute, then went to 0.5p/min, then it went to 1p/call.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

They were at 1p/call when I first joind them. I don't know there prices prior to that but does this mean that we are eventually heading for a "per minute" tariff (in reverse gear)?BexTech wrote:But it didn't start at 1p/call, it started at 1p/minute, then went to 0.5p/min, then it went to 1p/call.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
I use 1899 for mobile calls and 18866 for landline and international - I only ring Spain, and thats 2p a minute during the day. I dont think I can be bothered with changing all my numbers on my phone tbh to change over to 1899 for everything. It is very annoying though that they can't mail you to let you know, I never visit the website, so had it not been for this thread, I would be none the wiser. Thank you.0

There are at least (see my last paragraph below) 5 ways to call Spain for 1p/minute:julieblake wrote:I use 1899 for mobile calls and 18866 for landline and international - I only ring Spain, and thats 2p a minute during the day.
Telediscount 1p/min (08448619898)
DialAround1p/min (08448617373)
Bestminutes1p/min (08448615151)
181851p/min
Topupnow1p/min
However, because I have an account with 1899 and they raised their rates to Spain to 2p/minute, I went hunting for an alternative. Surprisingly, I found 1899's rate for cable customers (via their 0808 1 708 708 freephone number) was - and still is - 1p/minute!Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -
This is what it says on their website now -
(05.09.2005) Connection fee change
Dear customer,
From the 6th of september all calls via 18866 are subjected to a connection fee of 3p per call. All calls to landlines within the U.K. will remain 0p per minute!
Best regards, 188660 -
I have heard (from a family source who has access to Company details) that the English operators of 18866 were in fact 'insolvent'. This was when the rate was 1p.
At the end of the day it does make you wonder how they can do it ... even at 3p!!!
We recently had a daft scenario where we contacted our daughter in America, on a mobile phone, AND IT WAS CHEAPER THAN PHONING A MOBILE PHONE IN THE UK!!!!!
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!0
