Well.... it cooked up a treat. Allbeit odd shapes.
Tasted GORGEOUS. And the pizza crust/base was fantastic.
Created one HELL of a lot of washing up though!!! Never done so much. This is why I don't like to cook: it invariably creates a lot of awkward things to wash up.
I thought using the breadmaker I'd just have to wash out the bucket and the plate I ate the pizza off. Turned out an entirely different story. I think I washed up 6 plates (quite a feat as I only own 2). I used two to try to squash the pizza dough into shape/size (that failed as I ended up with the dough stuck on both sides and it had a hell of a suction! difficult to prise the plates off it again). Then I used the two plates again for the 15 minutes warming process so these needed washing again. I used one to cut up some of the toppings.
Because I was rubbish at getting it shaped/laid out, it's made 3 meals. If I'd managed to get it a uniform size and the right shape it'd have made 2 full-sized pizzas (4-8 meals depending how piggy one is).
One eaten. Two more cooling to go into the fridge.
The tomatoes on the base were a bit soggy. I'll get tomato puree next time I am out. Seems easiest.
End to end, this took me 4 hours to: do the shopping, mix the dough, rise, add the toppings, cook 2, eat one half, do the washing up.
Saved £1 by not buying one. Spent £5 on sweeties because I was in the shop.0 -

Hey really pleased for you. Tip for the pizza sauce topping, I just use plain passata, cheapo sieved tomato saucey thing from wherever I'm in, asda, lidl, tesco, usually around the 38p mark. Then I mix some mixed herbs in, maybe tear a little basil on top too. Splodge it on dough.

Might try some bread though that I take out at the dough stage and put things on it .... not sure what yet. Things might be: rosemary, onion, cheese, sun dried tomatoes. Have to see which of those I have to hand when I next get this cooking urge ..0 -
Cold pizza for breakfast: win.
It's brilliant cold. The base and the toppings I chucked on far out-perform anything similar I have ever bought! Last night I thought the tomato base was a bit sloppy ... but in the end it was great. Not soggy at all. This morning the base is still un-soggy.
It's just that shaping thing I need to work out how to do. It's not easily mouldable by hand.0 -
OK, it's been awhile, but I have to schedule this breadmaker lark into things. I often find I am hungry, but can't use it as it would take 3 hours to make something and I need food NOW.
So, here I am and it's quite early on a Sunday, so I thought I'd make some pizzas.
The first pizza base I made was way too much.
Second lot I made, I did half the quantities, which was fine.
But I have realised I need a rolling pin - which I still haven't got.
But I decided to make a third batch of pizza base and have pizza for tea today, lunch tomorrow, tea tomorrow... etc.
Thing was, I bodged the quantities. I kept repeating to myself over and over again the quantities I needed (half what the book says). Got them all together in a bowl. Double checked, triple checked. Yes, all in there. All correct. Right. Just chuck the water in then, bung this bowl full in and top off with the yeast portion.
Closed the lid. Pressed start. Went outside for a cig ... and it hit me! I'd not halved the water! So I had double the water quantity in there ... so had to dash back in, stop the machine and measure out half the ingredients again!
I must write the recipe out with the portions already halved so I don't do that again!
So... only another 2 hours and I might be eating great (cheap) pizza.
I am forcing myself to keep doing this.... next I will be making some bread by making dough and putting it in a dish to bake (so I don't have the paddle problems of my first two bread attempts).

pasturesnew having read your thread from beginning to end I had to chuckle at your plight.I have a few tips that might help you.Instead of eating all the pizza base in one go why not divide the pizza base dough in half and use one half and freeze the other.Theres no need to shape it just plonk the dough to be frozen in some foil and stick it in the freezer.Remove from the freezer in the morning and it will be thawed and ready to use for teatime.
Tomato sauce for the pizza I just fry a chopped onion and clove of garlic in a little oil until the onion is lovely and soft but not coloured then I add a pinch of mixed herbs and a jar of passata.I leave this to boil for a few minutes and then use it.It will make too much for one pizza so you can freeze whats left to use with the other half of pizza dough.
Shaping the pizza is best done with a rolling pin but in my younger years when I was first setting up home I used anything round as a rolling pin this included glass milk bottles and jam jars.But make sure the lid is on securely or you could be in for a nasty surprise:rotfl:
As for the bread problem I had this problem with one of my previous bm's and I found that if I removed the pan from the bm and covered it with a towel the steam would help release the bread from the pan much easier

Oh PasturesNew you have made me laugh. I've just been given a breadmaker by someone but unfortunately not an instruction book and having never used a breadmaker in my life I'm too scared to try it. I have visions of turd bread of my own :rotfl:0
