Right, well, it was well and truly stuck. I tried everything. Bashed it well over 100 times on the base (which isn't easy to do while trying to hold the bucket with very small hands.

In the end I got a knife and cut vertically down into the bread. Took out a big chunk from the middle and ate it. Tasted OK.

Then I went back in and dug down to the bottom and pulled it out.

This time it appears the paddle jammed. It's still jammed in fact. Paddle/bucket now in soak hoping the paddle will come off at some point.

So, I ate the middle of the loaf, crusts are of little value or interest to me, so I've put those in foil in case I get the urge to eat one later, but I expect to bin those.

oh no PN I was hoping for a "oo I've got delicious bread" post but this instead!! Sommat sounds not quite right with two failed loaves & if I were you I would take it back for a new one....I've had a MR fastbake for a while & had one failed loaf (which incidentally was also a packet mix) but other than that its been fine....Feel quite disappointed for you :(

I bought it online. It'd be a pain in the 4rse to pack it up and send it off etc etc. I've rarely taken stuff back that doesn't work. Most things don't work for me, so I'm used to it. I'll try again in a couple of days. Might be just bad luck (it took 2 goes to buy one as Argos sold me a 2nd hand one in the first instance).

I really feel for you PasturesNew - that's usually the way my luck goes. Like the oven I've had for 6 years with a door that has never shut properly; the shower that only knows two temperatures - scalding and freezing; I could go on.

Maybe third time lucky? (But have something else in for lunch just in case!)

I think I'd definitely try phoning the manufacturer though, maybe they could suggest tips?

I'm going to try oiling it next time. It's not seen the last of me yet.

I think a manufacturer tip to me would be: Step away from the machine ... you've no idea what you're doing have you?!

I bought a Tesco leather manager chair the other week, great except the 5th castor doesn't fit on, so using it, but nearly having a nasty accident every time I forget it's only got 4 on.

I generally avoid buying things because they just don't ever seem to be right/to work for me.

Maybe I should become an independent product tester.... I can make anything malfunction.

I think maybe we were separated at birth .:D

Perhaps you should stop buying things new - try advertising on freecycle, at least then you'd (hopefully) get something that has worked at least once! You'd save money as well.:p

:j Yey, well at least your second attempt was better than the first, that's what's known as positive progress....it can only get better.

Now enough of that negative self talk and get some proper ingredients ~ not out of a ready mixed packet. Flour, yeast, salt sugar water.

Would you like me to post a recipe, I'll have to dig out my breadmaker booklet.;):D

I've got a Morphy Richards compact breadmaker too and it is completley pants. I've not managed one decent loaf out of it. Thought it was me doing something wrong.....but maybe not. Worst of all I had a panasonic that died when it fell of the kitchen work top, so I know what I'm missing. Has anyone managed to get the compact to produce something decent?
  • does anyone knw the cheapest place to buy a breadmaker? want to start making my ownto save money but dont want to have to spend a small fortune buying one either!
