I know I shouldn't but your post made me laugh sooo much. If you lived near me I would bake you a loaf from the la lllaaaaaaahhhh Panasonic dream bread maker and hand you a glass of wine.:D

I can't stop laughing about the crusty turd.:rotfl:

have you tried your local freecycle for a different (HINT ASK FOR A PANASONIC) breadmaker.

good luck with the next loaf - can I ask what setting you had it on for the first loaf?
Most breadmakers have a basic cycle which takes about three hours, and generally works well with most recipes.
The rapid ones arent so good, and ine has some bizzarre setting called 'H. Rapide' which I thought was fastbake, but it actally started cooking the dough before it had risen, and burnt the bottom, so I had to stop the programme before it started smoking!!?
It was the basic programme. Number 1.
    Selected right loaf size too.

I just bought this one brand new, which wasn't as easy as it sounds.

And I'd be iffy about a 2nd hand one as I have a massive fear of electrical gadgets of any sort (even lightbulbs).

Right. Just put a 2nd loaf on.
Second half of the same pack.

Made a boo boo. It says tepid water... I forgot. I am just not very good at this whole lark really.

So, might be pictures within 4-5 hours of a different sort of failure!

Update: 5 minutes in, looked in the window, there's a ball of dough going round. I suspect the paddle fell off yesterday well before this stage, probably right in the first 2 seconds.... so looking better..

    Thanks.

Yesterday was clearly a case of if you don't know what you're looking for and have never seen one and it really goes wrong right from the start, you've no idea. Yesterday it clearly never got through the mixing stage at all, but all sat there as half mixed liquid/powder and baked like that. If I'd known I should have a big dough ball within 4-5 minutes I'd have spotted something was wrong.

if you have a panny it doesn`t really matter about putting tepid water in as the panny has a temperature control thingamy and will bring it to the correct temp itself. i always just put water in straight from the tap and have never had any problems with the panny...my old breadmaker (morphy richards) now thats a different story!!! couldn`t get a bloomin decent loaf outta that thing for love nor money no matter what i tried  im glad i got rid of it and upgraded to a panny.

Right. So bread's cooked. Looks fine .... but I can't get it out.
Instructions say give it a tap. Been banging away at the base and nothing. So far shoved a spatula down the edges to see if that helps. Nothing.

Off for another go, but looks like I might have to dig it out in chunks

Did you get the loaf out?? TH MR I had, you had to shake shake shake the pan to get the loaf out. By the way don't wash it out with anything more than warm water. The non stickiness will be reduced if you do this as far as I'm aware.

    Good Luck :)
