Continued Breadmaker Carnage (attempt 5) .. starts on Post #87

I had a brill bread machine that I bought from Aldi but it stopped working due to overuse ! The bread would get stuck in it sometimes, i would just use a pallet knife to gently ease it out. Sometimes the paddle would be stuck in the bread but you just pull that out gently. I now have a rubbish machine , i have given up making bread in it but try to make bread in the mixer instead, hassle but it works.
I have a recipe for pizza dough that we use every friday we just mix all ingredients in the mixer and leave , it works everytime, my ds makes it . Let me know if you want the recipe and I will dig it out.0 -
Ah, thanks.
So, salt IS necessary. I'll buy some of that then.
Re substituting olive oil for butter, I have a measure for the butter - wouldn't know how to translate that into a measure of olive oil, so I'd best not meddle for my first attempt.
I'm using the recipe in the book that came with my breadmaker for now. I figure changes/alternatives and experiments have to come when you're accustomed to what the usual result is.
It seems easy: Put the stuff in, press the button. Then just flatten/top/bake. So I am optimistic.0 -
Hi PasturesNew,
As it's your first time making pizza some of the threads in The Complete Pizza Collection might help.
Good luck!

I thought I'd make the dough and then if I am brave I might try rolling some cheese into the crust.
Only difference apart from that is toppings, which are down to what you have and what you like!0 -
From the Pizza list, I'm liking this idea: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=3530813&postcount=5
I've often looked at basic cheese/onion breads in supermarkets and thought they'd make a great/cheap base.
Having said that, the pack I did try of cheese/onion bread from a bag didn't turn out too well the first time... a lot of this is all about doing more to gain experience though isn't it.
And this: cooking a pizza in a frying pan, I think I saw that programme http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=556479&postcount=1
I tried to track the frying pan recipe down:
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3412/frying-pan-pizza
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/panpizzawithtomatoco_85272.shtml
Seems to be quite a popular way. Maybe I will try frying a base.
Not confident about using the grill. I think there's one inside my oven (on the roof), but I am scared of using anything electrical, so would be fearful that as it'd not been used before it would smoke/smell. I'm a right scaredy cat at using anything which might smell/smoke as I'm sure they're about to create a huge catastrophic fire!! (crazy, but we all have our little phobias!)0 -

GO ON PATURESNEW, you can do this girl/boy, man/woman.:D
It's all your fault ... stalking me over on the housing boards and bringing up bread/breadmakers all the time ....
And it's: late 40s, female. Short and scared of most things (including kitchens/gadgets)
Just getting the energy together to go to the shops to buy the sugar, yeast, flour ... etc.0 -
If you haven't already gone I wouldn't bother about buying sugar, use honey instead. I use one tablespoon of honey instead of a couple of ounces of sugar. I also use one tablespoon of olive to replace up to two ounces of butter.
This works fine for bread or pizza.Piglet

Right... mini update.
Went out to get the stuff. First shop yeast didn't say "fast action" (if it doesn't say exactly what I have written down then I can't buy it as I've no idea if it's the same or different). They also had no bread flour... so ... off to a proper supermarket.
Managed to spend £5 on sweets.
Managed to spot some fantastic looking ready-made and tasty sounding pizzas priced about £2.
But ... I was determined. Got everything and came home. So that was an hour gone.
Took me 16 minutes to weigh everything out. Meticulous and treble-checking I had added everything and used the right little measure. In the end I didn't use butter as it said the butter had to be melted... and how the heck can you really melt and add 1 teaspon of butter? So I used olive oil.
Pressed the buttons on the breadmaker and it's working.
Boy those things wobble and thrash about when they're cooking don't they. I have to keep checking it hasn't dropped off the kitchen top!
So. 1.5 hours before that's done. Then it's the topping/baking bit.
So, I'll be back before 9.30 with the next "how I managed to c0ck this up" installment.0
