Hi- just noticed your thread today. Don't worry about the lump. Not every breast lump is cancerous and even if they were, most of them are treatable. The new NHS policy is all breast lump's in the child bearing group should be seen in the breast one stop clinic within 2 weeks of referral by the GP (that is one of the criteria for the star rating for hospital's). There you will have a what we call a triple test to detect what the lump is i.e clinical examination +/- FNAC (needle biopsy) +/- ultrasound on the same day and the result will be told to you. Sometimes all these test's might be inconclusive and then you might have a core biopsy.
    Good luck

    Hi Ember

I am thinking positive thoughts for you and if I could I would give you a big hug, the thought must be terrifying but I hope and statistics point to the lump hopefully being a cyst. Keeping everything crossed for you.

  • My SIL (who's not yet 30) waited 7 weeks for a scan appointment. The scan was today, and she is fine. As everyone else says, you have a 4 out of 5 chance that it is benign. Good luck with it - and your husband sounds lovely.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

Thanks once again for all your messages of support, don't know how I would cope without them at the moment. The messages giving a clear message that the chances of my lump being benign are helping me cope. I feel sick and although I have tried to eat tonight, I cannot. This really has been a !!!! month for me. 4th August my cat had to be put to sleep after contacting FIP, I was ill for 3 weeks following, not eating, sleeping, depressed etc. got a new kitten called Nash who made me smile again and was pleasantly waiting for my dreams to come true by moving into my new cottage in Scotland a week on wednesday. Now this, it's knocked me for six i can tell you. I keep feeling the lump, worrying it as it's worrying me. Hoping I will go to touch and it will have been a bad dream and have gone! I just can't get my head around it. I am so young.

hi ember, i know its a terrifying time for you at the moment and alot of other mse's are thinking of you, but try and sit back and take prespective of the situation that your in, by worrying about it will do your health no good, so if you can afford to go private for a scan (i think they are about £80) do so tomorrow. if you cant -try and think positive about the lump if you can, at least you know its there!! thinking about your own mortality is frightening, and at the moment you probably only hear the CANCER word in your head.....alot of us know how your feeling. its not the end of the road for you, when i originally found out i had a rare womb cancer at 26yrs i was adamant that i would rather die than live without children and refused a hysterectomy, 6yrs on i am now all clear and the mother of 2 beautiful blessed from heaven miracle children. THINK POSITIVE.........thinking of u and lots of hugs from me and my 2 angels...

    Avi,

Am I right in understanding from your thread that I will get the results of the tests on the day I have them? The Doctor didn't say anything about when I would get results, I didn't even ask, i was still too shocked to be in in the surgery about this issue. The wait is going to be awful, 2 weeks seems such a long time, and then to have to wait further time for the results of the tests is a horrific thought. So I will hear on the day I have the tests? Doctor mentioned a needle being inserted into lump to withdraw fluid to test, does it hurt? How bad? I can't imagine a needled inserted is going to be even tolerable :(
I can't believe my life has turned into such a nightmare, I just want to go to sleep and wake up someone else :(

Thank You to everyone who has kindly replied with good wishes and information.

  • Don't worry - my wife had a lump, she is not overweight or anything (7 stone). We went and had a scan and it turned out to be fatty tissue (this is the case in the majority of scares).

If you put your case forward to the doctor and express your concern, he should eb able to turn it round quickly - we waited 2 days on the NHS - he knew we were stressed/worried.
