I've just noticed that they've mucked up the 'My Accounts' screen as well - it will only display account roll-numbers, not the more common sortcodes & account numbers.
    Don't Halifax check these things ... :(

You get a choice to display your accounts by roll number or sort code and account number. Roll number is more common as thats what they use. Its very simple to change it

By 'using the online system' i meant sending a regular payment that would have taken 3 working days

ok well this is not a CHAPS then, thats a standing order or bill payment

I KNOW that. I went in branch to carry out a CHAPS transfer because I was confused/worried my money wouldn't make it by Tuesday if I used the standard bill payment system. But getting them to make a CHAPS transfer was just as farcical/difficult as trying to do a transfer via the online bill payment system!

I don;t understand why as it should take the adviser like 5 minutes!

I am not liking the process of paying my credit card online as that has changed so have paid mine over the counter this week instead

I've got a feeling you're going to regret saying that!

dunstonh et al have always posted that it takes two people at each end and 30 minutes to complete.

Must do if it costs £30 (or so). :D

    I also KNOW that

I was in there fore 25 minutes (i know because it was only my lunch break so very conscious of time)

First advisor on help desk sent me to counter. Counter advisor was new and couldn't do it and sent me back to the help desk.

Woman on the help desk couldn't log on to the computers.

When she finally got into my accounts she had to fill in forms etc, then seemed very put out with the amount of my transfer as this meant she had to get a manager to sign off but they were all 'at lunch' and she had to phone to ask someone to come from the staff room.

Finally, all sorted, a huge queue behind me at the help desk. They didn't make me feel like they knew what they were doing at all so I was very concerned and made sure I called my solicitor just before they closed to ensure the money had gotten there (it had).

Did not check my ID until I offered when she was saying she was sending the transfer.

All the adviser is doing though is completing the form in branch with the information supplied, debiting the account and putting the money into a head office holding account.

A second person has got to input their password too, and if over a certain amount security questions asked and manager may need to sign off so this may take longer.

The payment clearing department then go in and transfer the money from the head office holding account - hence the £25 fee and the fee is paying for the funds to be in the other account the same day.

so it shouldnt take too long for the customer in branch basically .....

I have now read the thread above, manager sign off involved. Counters don't do CHAPS in our area branches, - it tends to be reception or interviewers

I am hoping they change the CHAPS system, as with the telegraphic transfer system, this is now on browser and debits the account for you, and it a lot quicker

Just got a response to my original question to Halifax ... as regards the weekend (apparent) change to external payments. As follows :-
... if an external payment is requested before 6pm on a Saturday, this payment will be sent at 00:01am on Monday (not bank holidays).

However any payments requested after 6pm Saturday, and all day Sunday will be sent on the Tuesday at 00:01am.

At least it's clarified it. But it's not a logic that will naturally stick with me ... as I'd always thought they didn't run Batch on a Sat night. This implies that they (now?) do? And I'm sure the above wasn't reflecting last weekend?

Will have a quick look tomorrow.

Yes ... silly of me to look tomorrow. Still hasn't quite dawned that it's a Bank Hol on Monday! So Tuesday is how it would have worked .. even before the changes.
