What actually happened was, those funds were 'reserved' until around 3am on the following day to be sent...

As soon as it gets to 00.01am tomorrow, the payment will be sent...
So is it 00:01 or 03:00? (not that it matters, but it's best to be consistent!).
The new system will only allow you to select the next working day as this falls in line with industry standards...
What?!?! Only Halifax and A&L (to my knowledge) operate like this. Everybody else (ie, real banks) operate on an instant transfer basis (up to the early evening cut-off point).

Anyway, thanks for posting Mikeyorks. ;)

I believe LTSB do the same.

We were informed that the changes were in preparation for the faster payments system and to get in line with other banks (so other banks will prob follow suit)

also there were complaints about where the money was being reserved early, so this has been done away with and ithe funds are only debited when the money is actually sent (as per the message a few up)

A CHAPS is totally different as this can not be done online and you pay for the service using a different system. it can be done over the phone with telephone banking

So this has been done by Halifax to please its customers? :(
Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

I've just noticed that they've mucked up the 'My Accounts' screen as well - it will only display account roll-numbers, not the more common sortcodes & account numbers.
    Don't Halifax check these things ... :(

By 'using the online system' i meant sending a regular payment that would have taken 3 working days

I am also having an online nightmare with Halifax over them showing false balances. This is because they include cheques that have not yet cleared in as part of your balance. It's impossible to keep tabs on what your real balance is if you have a number of cheques going in and transactions going out. Granted it says next to each cheque 'cheque avail XXX' but this doesn't really help when you are trying to work out the actual balance on a daily balance and money is tight. I have now just had a charge for £35 for going over my overdraft limit by £1 because of this. GRRRRRR

They're not false balances. The statement body shows the transactions and the running total .... as uncleared cheques do attract interest after 2 working days.

If you want the 'available' figure - which you seem to? Then you just look at the top right above the statement body ... and there it is?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
