In my opinion, the new Halifax system is worse than the old one.
It is much slower, and doesn't let you do things as straightforwardly as before - as post 7, I tried to do one last Thursday (very early hours) and the earliest date it would let me enter was the following Monday.
It also doesn't seem to have been adequately proof-read.
    Thumbs down from me.

There is a feedback option on the site. Why not let them know so that they can do something about it if enough people don't like it.

Just to be clear, you put on a request at, say, 01:00 on Thursday morning and the earliest date available was Monday? It wouldn't allow you select Friday?

Question regarding this: If I go online on Monday evening at 5.30 and start a transfer to another bank, when will it arrive? I assume it won't leave my account until Tuesday 29th (I hope.. or will Wednesday be the earliest?) with the bank holiday that weekend would my money reach the recipients account by Tues 6th May?

If not, do I have to go in branch and pay to make a faster transfer?

Yes. (I'll have to check on the exact time but it was certainly pre-0300.)

    Edit:
The earliest date available on the drop-down calendar was 28 April.
I tried manually changing that to the 24th (which the old system would have allowed) and then the 25th (and then the 26th ;)) but no success.
It wasn't any real problem to have to settle on the 28th, but it was annoying. :(

But you're not losing out by this recent change are you?

On the spot payment requests from Halifax have always been held back for one day before entering the 3-day BACS cycle.

I will have to admit to not realising this. :o

I still find the changes irritating, but accept that is more to do with my preferences rather than anything else.

    Thanks.

I will consider doing that, but I have no confidence whatsoever in them taking any notice.
If it continues to bother me, I will look elsewhere. I suspect that I will review most of my banking options when 'faster payments' comes in.

I've just taken a look now and the earliest I can transfer is Tuesday 29th, which I'd expect since today isn't a bank working day. I have some banking to do tomorrow. Haven't yet decided whether to do at just gone midnight tonight, or 06:00 tomorrow, but I would expect any payment put on at either of the above times to be able to be selected for Tuesday 29th...ie, the next bank working day. If I get the same result as you, Meltdown, it'll make me select Wednesday 30th.

I'll report back. PS: Sorry about the block of text. For some reason I can't format paragraphs?

I would expect it to arrive Friday latest, but possibly Thursday (depending on their cut-off time for Tuesday payments, and 17:30 Monday may miss it). However, if it's crucial then maybe you should ask Halifax.
