Weave em and make an interesting piece. That's what I do, peyote stitch works good with bead soup, or make multicoloured memory bangles with them.0 -

Hi there everyone I am new to this so please forgive me if anything is not right!
I am looking for some help and guidance on where to get started with jewellry making I would love to be able to make things and to be able to produce things as beautiful as on here would be wonderful. I also want to do something that will involve my daughter so that she has a hobby other than facebook!
So basically what do I need to begin?,where can I buy it from? are there any good books I could borrow from the library?
I would be very grateful for any help or advice.0 -
this website is good and has lots of free tutorials and patterns
http://beadwork.about.com/
Earrings or bracelets are quite a quick and easy thing to get started on.
For earrings you need to buy the earring wires (bits you stick in your ears), some wire to put the beads on, the beads, and some pliers.
bracelets need even less - just some bead thread or elastic, some beads and a clasp.
This is a lovely shop in brighton that does mail order too and here are the beginner packs:

The clasps and earring bits etc are called "findings"working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Thankyou newlywed we are going to have look at those sites now ,would you recommend Hobbycraft for anything now I have my daughters interest she is desperate to get started!:D0

Hobbhycraft can be ok, but they do tend to be a little pricey. I only use them as a last resort, or if I am passing and need some wire.
But you can at least have a look in there at the stuff they have, I think they may have some smaller kits to try out.0 -
Hobbycraft is over 45 minutes from us (and last time we passed it OH wouldn't let me go in as I already had enough "stuff"
). So sorry can't comment.

jayney I would have a look on the internet and see what you both like. u tube do online tutorials that are great and firemountain jems have lots of ideas. Then just buy what you need to start with...a set of pliers is a good idea (pliers, crimp tool & nipper tool I would say good to start with) but dont go mad!! Just check you like it first...I got loads at the start and dont use half of it!
heres linkies for you
