Thank you Vicks, any recommendations as to what kind of threads or wires, etc? There seem to be so many different kinds of everything that I just don't know where to start.

I find beadalon or tiger tail easiest to work with. Its coated wire but its very pliable and quite strong.

It's kind of trial and error really. :o

I like bead weaving (see my previous post with my piccies) and so prefer using thread.

Even when doing other types of jewellery I don't like the way the bead wire is so solid as I like my necklaces and bracelets to kind of fall against me rather than be solid and rigid. So I often use thread.

I mainly use wire for earrings.

Having said that, I do sometimes use the clear plastic thread (actually it's cheaper to buy fishing line and you get a bigger reel) :)

I use KO thread for my weaving, it's strong and comes in may different colours, after trying it compared with nymo, I find it a lot better to use, and you generally don't need to condition it much first (I get very annoyed when the wax builds up on my needle)

I also find that it's doesn't fray as much and so makes threading the needle easier.

There is a site with a lot of weaving patterns on, I can't for the life of me remember the site, but if you google free bead patterns then is come up with it, its something like bead-patterns.com. You just pick the free ones that you want and then print them off.

There's free tutorials and bead patterns on this site:

I also use cross stitch books and use bands from the borders of sampler style cross stitch as my bead weaving/bead loom pattern - great for bracelets etc.

Not quite jewellery making as in bracelets etc, but a bit of lateral thinking..... I friend has just sent me a link to site that has re[laceable bra straps made from beads, chain, pearl or diamante, they look very easy to copy, Site also has jewelled or feather or ribbon clips to decorate shoes, There was even an anklechain thingy to put round your boots. There were also toe rings. Although I have nothing to do with the company I'm not sure if I allowed to post a link. But I could pm it to anyone interested I suppose

I think it's ok to put the site so long as you are nothing to do with the site. We often post links to show things or to help people if they are looking for certain items. As far as I know it's only when you are self promoting that you get told about it!!!! Sounds interesting Sandy, do post the link!!!!
