I've just looked all through the website for this class action. THEY DO NOT HAVE A PRIVACY POLICY. Under UK law, their request for your info is illegal!

Where does it say that? I find it hard to beleive because the information commissioner has started a crackdown on solicitors that don't comply with the Data Protection Act.

Solicitors warned over data protection
Managing Intellectual Property
About a third of all firms of solicitors in the UK have not registered as data controllers with the Information Commissioner's Office.
Under the Data Protection Act, most organizations that enter individuals' details on to a computer must register with the Commissioner or face prosecution. The cost of notification is £35 ($62).
The Commissioner's office revealed on August 12 that some 3,000 firms of solicitors have not yet notified as data controllers. It is writing to these firms urging them to notify, unless they are exempt.
Data controllers are exempt from notification if they only process personal data for staff administration, accounts and records or advertising, marketing and public relations, or if they do not use computers.
The Commissioner's Office has already prosecuted one solicitor, Ralph Donner, after his firm Feld Mackay and Donner failed to notify. He was fined £3,150 and ordered to pay £3,500 in costs in March. The fine was reduced on appeal.
The Office's chief operating officer Simon Entwistle said: "I must stress that failure to notify is a serious offence and, ultimately, we do have legal powers at our disposal to ensure firms comply with the law."

I must commend Argos on their handling of this one. It is the best service I have had from an unhonoured misprice.
They sent me the email explaining exactly what had happened and followed this up with a letter which I received within 2 days.
Fair enough they took the fiver from my account, however this is just part of the automated system they work to. If they didn't have an efficient automated system to collect the funds from your card then they would not be able to despatch items as quickly in normal circumstances.
Most of us got refunded within 5 bank working days which is not unreasonable
This by far beats the companies who completely ignore you or pretend that stock no longer exists .
So I for one will continue to give my custom to Argos.
If any of the prats try to take Argos to court then I would be quite happy to be called as a witness for the defence on this one.0 -

You seem to know a lot about Solicitors!
Just so that I know :-
Do you have an account with Argos?
Did you opt-out of receiving email from argos when you set up an account?
If you did opt-out, whats your problem, if you didn't opt-out, why not if it bothers you so much?
Are you dozeerascal that posted on the dvdreviewer forum?
Another 4 simple questions that won't be answered.
Privacy Policy comes under the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, not the Data protection Act, and theres a nice little get-out clause for solicitors, but thats as far as I'm going with that one!0 -
