To clarify:-
1. No, I have not suggested it was a plot to harvest email addresses - but simply pointed out that less reputable companies might well use just such a device for that purpose.
2. Whilst you may feel that the addresses of MSE'rs may not be worth having, I feel sure that there were one or two non MSE'er in the 10,000!
3. Yes, people could opt out, but I would imagine its fairly safe to say that a resonably large number do not. I would be very suprised if they did not end up with a reasonable number of non-opted out non-MSE'rs.
I'm not going to discuss what steps in law the solicitors might decide to take nor what are the prospects of success. No doubt they will clarify their intentions with those who contact them. Why don't you just leave it and see what happens instead of denigrating them as 'ambulance chasers' and MSE'rs as greedy?0 -

You seem to make a pretty good link here :-teeceeare wrote:2. What would be the motive for an online sales team to create intentional error in the pricing? ..........Here over 10,000 valuable current email addresses of those who buy on the internet were collected.teeceeare wrote:2. Very much doubt even close to 10000 emails were collected, what with people ordering up to 80 at a time. Also, you have opt outs, temporary address etc.teeceeare wrote:3. Which is down to the individual concerned if they want to receive emails from Argos. Its not down to you to say everyone opts out!!!!!teeceeare wrote:I'm not going to discuss what steps in law the solicitors might decide to take nor what are the prospects of success. There intentions are pretty obvious, thats to make money. Never found a solicitors yet that did it for charitable reasons.teeceeare wrote:Why don't you just leave it and see what happens instead of denigrating them as 'ambulance chasers'
They are ambulance chasers, thats why.
In the 5 posts you've made, 4 have directly hyperlinked to the ambulance chasers. Whats you're motivation in this, here it is :-teeceeare wrote:which under the anti-spamming laws can include awards of compensation to the consumer
Are you this desperate for money? You haven't even stated if you opted-out for email, or even whether you have an Argos account.
Final question for you :- as Trading Standards would seem a more genuine way to handle any issues here, why would you go down the road of solicitors?0 -

I dont really have anything constructive to say but wanted to reply even if I only replied with the following :

Its actually quite fun once you get into it. Keeps me amused for hours.
My favourite line for the last one was
"Which is down to the individual concerned if they want to receive emails from Argos. Its not down to you to say everyone opts out!!!!!"
I actually read the ambulance chasers web-page, Ok, I'm not legally minded (some contract law, Data Protection Act 84 and 98 is about my limits), but I thought they hadn't a clue. I was going to suggest it was a plot by the solicitors to harvest email addresss from greedy people, but that may not be the case.0 -
AS I am going round in circles, unlike bugbod, I'm out of this discussion, and not coming back to it.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

I'm surprised that no-one who is £5.44 temporarily out of pocket has suggested taking direct action like the last time there was an Argos fiasco! Some people (not ME obviously) even considered reserving EVERY one of a particularly popular item (such as Sony PSP) so that there are none in stock on a very busy day (like next Saturday say) which would hit Argos where it hurts - in the wallet OUCH!
It won't achieve much but they could vent their aggression on their keyboard typing in all those numbers to reserve stock. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0
