  • I haven't had a chance to sort anything out yet, I will look into the products suggested, and I might see if drizzling salt on the verge of the door frame will work, as it will be where the door is closed so the kids still won't be able to access it.

    Thanks again for suggestions

Every morning when we get up there are slug trails on the carpets/ rugs and it is doing my head in!

Can anyone advise where they might be hiding so that I can get rid permanently? I think they were coming in the cat falp that was fitted when we moved in but this is now sealed.

    Thanks

For the past two weeks we have suddenly had slugs appear on our kitchen floor last thing at night. Usually only one, occasionally two. They are generally by the dishwasher or washing machine. We have pulled out units, scoured drains, tracked back pipes, and cannot find any other trace of them, or how they are getting in. What can we do? I'd much prefer not to kill them btw, just dont want them on the floor.

            Hi
We had the same thing a while ago and I sympathise with you. We rang the Council to get help in trying to remove them and the guy there said that we had a leak somewhere and once we fixed the leak and dried the place out the slugs would disappear. After having cupboards out and the kick plates off we found that there was a hole in the washing machine hose and the floor underneath was saturated. We fixed the hose but it took weeks for the floor to dry out but once it did there were no more slugs. Hope this helps
          2. We had this problem too they were getting in through the air bricks

We are plagued by slugs. Nasty evil little(and sadly, not so little ones)have no idea where they are comming from so will go and have another investigation. Re getting rid. I salt them(I know but hate them(its the main reason I buy salt) DH(kinder than me:rotfl: )carries them outside:confused:

            Hi sams,

You aren't the only one who's had this problem. :) There's an earlier thread with some suggestions that might help so I've added your thread to it. I hope you manage to get rid of them soon.

I totally sympathise with this. I live in an area that is plagued by them!!
I think mine come in through the catflap when it is wet.
The other night, I saw some slug trails on the top of the freezer!!!!! YUK.
So I decided to go to war.
I had heard that if you put salt or ash down, it stops them crawling, as they cannot glide over that. I did think that salt would dissovle outside when it was wet, and did not have ash to hand, as I had not lit the fire for a couple of weeks. Will do so tomorrow night however, as we are having friends over tomorrow night.
I did try salt in the garage a couple of months ago, as they were getting in through the garage at the front. It seemed to work.
What I did try the other night, which is supposed to be good, is beer. Supposedly, they love beer, and will crawl into pots with beer in and drown.
I filled a couple of cat food dishes with the beer, as I thought they were about the right depth (deep enough for them to drown - fiendish chuckle)
When I came down in the morning I was expecting to find a few there...... but NOTHING!!
Last night, I got up during the night, and one was making its way from the back door PAST the traps that I had laid. They must be laughing at me.
Just a couple of thing for you to try.
BTW if you have cats, do not use slug pellets, as they are poisonous to cats.

          6. My kitchen and dining room are semi-basement with a (very) damp coal cellar and (even damper) wine cellar (unused I might add) off the lobby outside the kitchen door.
for the last few moths each morning the lobby floor is covered in slug slime and I remove at least a dozen slugs of various sizes.

Has anyone any suggestions of what I could use to stop this. (To dry line the cellars and sort out the paving outside where water also leaks into the cellars is beyond my financial means). Is there anything I could sprinkle across the floor to deter them? I have a dog so it would need to be safe.

            thanks.

Idont think its necessarily to do with being semi basement. I have a normal semi and they get in around the fireplace and at the front door. I tend to either put salt down or ignore them so I too would be interested if there was a better solution.
