Slugs indoors. Help!!!

Can anyone recommend what I can do to stop slugs getting in my kitchen door at night.
I found putting a trail of salt on the door frame stopped them coming in, but of course the rain has been washing it away and the wretched things are coming back in again.
Is there a long term solution that won't involve it being washed away by the rain?

Copper coils/tape are mean't to work in plant pots, what about using that at the door?
Something like http://www.greengardener.co.uk/slugextra.htm
Another option might be to try to 'close the gap' maybe with some draught excluder tape you fasten inside the frame, I got some sticky back stuff from the £1 shop and stopped them getting under mine. Only ones I can find similar are on ebay so far http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-DRAUGHT-EXCLUDER-2-X-5M-ROLLS-WINDOWS-DOORS_W0QQitemZ120149119858QQihZ002QQcategoryZ122846QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Could you put the salt inside the kitchen door, or will that just make too much mess - dead slugs everywhere....perhaps not.0

Young children afraid it is probably too much of a risk inside.0 -
I had a problem with slugs in the conservatory.
I put salt round the edges of the room one night & I haven't had one in the house since. This was about 3 weeks ago I haven't seen a dead one either I think they just tell the salt is there & turn away.
If you put the salt down last thing at night & sweep or vacuum first thing in the morning I don't think it'll be at all hazardous for your children.0 -
Why would salt be hazadus anyway? Should someone warn chippies?0

I quite agree about the salt and small children;) Any luck with the slugs though ?0

When we were first married we had a ground floor flat and slugs used to get into the bedroom! We put salt down and then used to sweep up the dead slugs with a dustpan and brush-the salt used to dry them out so it wasn't too bad.I can remember making sure there was a circle of salt round each leg of the bed every night.0
