Humax PVR

Hi,
My patience with my Thomson PVR has finally been exhausted. I must now have the most reformatted HD in the business!
I am thinking of the Humax PVR9200TB. Any comments?
It is more expensive I know, but from my research seems far more reliable.
The only snag seems to be it only has a one week EPG.
How would we manage when we have our annual fortnight in Blackpool?
Jo

Were you having problems with your Thomson? The reason I ask is I took mine back to comet this week I bought it in july. I was told they had received quite a lot of returns and they offered to exchange it no problem. I exchanged it for the Humax and paid the difference. You can record the series of programmes like the Thomsom so you don't miss anything.0

We bought the Humax when it first came out (over two years ago I suspect) and it has been ultra-reliable. You can manually set programmes to record out beyond the EPG period, just like on a video recorder, as long as you know the channel number and start/finish times. There's love in this world for everyone. Humax have also updated the software to incorporate "series link" whereby if it's a series of programmes you want to record (eg. soaps) then it will automatically do this for you. It comes up as an option when setting recordings.
This update was a download to existing machines but no doubt the latest models have it already incorporated.
Some broadcasters don't support the "series link", Channel 5 being one of them.
So you don't need in excess of the 7 day e.p.g. for series recording reservation.
I wonder if Humax have any plans to update for a longer e.p.g?0 -
We have two Humax 9200 and its never let us down and brilliant piece of hardware The series link which was a recent change to the software as also good.
I also like the fact you can watch something from begining when its partly though and thus skip adverts0 -
Humax are well regarded and discussed here too: https://www.avforums.com0

This has to annoy the broadcasters and advertisers
and is, as you say really useful. If there's a choice of programmes I want to watch and one is on BBC and the other on a commercial channel I'll watch the BBC and record the commercial channel just for this facility.
The pause is also good for this, pause for 10 minutes and go make a cuppa then skip the adverts when play is resumed.
To the o.p., you'll not be disappointed with the Humax, very reliable and superb picture quality.0 -

Me too, I'd almost forgotten it was only 7 days because I use the series link feature so much. I definitely recommend the Humax."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Must get round to downloading the firmware update. Is it stable? Any issues? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Presumably anyone buying a Humax now, will not be able to receive the soon to be transmitted HD broadcasts? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
