Try quinoa - its lighter than rice and is great with chilli con carne, you can buy it in a lot of supermarkets now or at the health food shop, vegetarians eat it as it has a lot of protein in it.0

im not that desperate yetbut if things carry on the way they are then i may just not be able to say no as such, at the moment 8 sausages do us for 2 meals (4 in each and i mainly turn them into casseroles) so i buy asdas regular ones (1.00 a pack) and just bulk out with lots of veg and lentils

I wonder if there's lots of whoopsies on meat at the moment because people can't afford to buy it at proper price?0

at the moment i only buy mince, sausages and frozen chicken
mince is steak mince (i wont eat value) i buy the small 250g packets and half them, sausages again i half the pack of 8 and the chicken is £1.20 for 4 breast size pieces which can make anything up to 4 meals depending on what i am cooking
i only spend £5 tops a week on meatDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

i find funny that my OH doesn't miss meat when he has his dinners but i think he hasn't realised how little we are having, even when i cook mince it gets bulked with veg, oats and lentils, i can get 500g to do dinner for two x4 at the moment,
i buy one up from value mince or get the good stuff whoopsied, i won't buy value chicken, that i spend a lot on, tend to go to m&s for that but a bag of 10 chicken breasts is about two months worth of chook.
i currently have about 3 months worth of meat in tho so i think we can manage for the momentNonny mouse and Proud!!

Seeing a lot of that in my local Tesco. So I've been snapping up the bargains as I see them. There's now four of us to feed so I'm trying to make every penny count, so we can save for a holiday next year and our wedding!CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I have also noticed the same with fruit and veg - particularly organic.
MrT's were selling off Fruit and veg at daft prices the other day - we got 15 punnets of raspberries for 15p each - organic and reduced from £2.99. Also got loads of other bits and none of it was more expensive then 5p
We did also get some organic lamb knuckles for £1.05.

I think you will find that sometimes it depends on the weather what is reduced.
I have found that with the rain I have been getting iceberg lettuces and cucumbers for 10p each
And BBQ stuff is also reduced. The other day my local sainburys had a whole display unit full of reduced finger and round baps that where packed as BBQ items for 10p for a pack of 6
So the weather can influence what is reduced to clear.

yeah I agree. We dont usually eat meat alot - we will have mince (value) and chicken (not value) but even then the 800g mince is halfed and does two meals (usually one shpeherds pie and stovies) - with portions to freeze easily. Then the chicken is done as a roast dinner, then curry, and sandwiches for boyfriedn with teh carcass for stock. Thats all we eat but liek i said with things being reduced lately we have got a fair bit in so we will be eating it for a while now but even then it will all be stretched so will alst us alot longer.Time to find me again0
