I will buy cheap meat even though I know I shouldn't (Hugh makes me feel guilty but I enjoy a chicken now and then) but I still can't bring myself to buy the value sausages.
What's the meat content in them these days?0 -
RS, I think its about 40% which when I compared it to other non-value etc Asda sausages I'd bought previously they were the sameCC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Sainsburys butchers sausages are 72 % pork and I dont think I could eat or give to my kids, a sausage that was less than half that in meat:o sorry!...I compared the value ones and they were only about 35% meat:eek: . I buy the sainsburys butchers sausage when they are bogof ,so 2 packs for about £1.50. But generally I buy my meat at the market from a butcher who is really good. Most value/basics things I will buy ,but not meat from the supermarkets. I am lucky that I have a good butcher to go to who is really cheap and makes his mince etc in front of you so you know whats in it.
I think pork sausages usually have a higher meat content than any other type of sausage (with the exception of the value ones).JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Have to admit to liking 'decent sausages' - Asda ES special range for us (£1.98 per pack or 3 for £5 making them £1.66 per pack), though we don't have them very often. Took some Pork and Apple ones out of the freezer earlier today for tonight's tea - will serve with some savoury rice.
I've discovered that there is a Farmer's Market held not too far away on the second saturday of the month - going to give it a try next time it's on! Don't have a vehicle so fingers crossed for public transport being convenient!0 -

I don't normally buy sausages but have started to buy the asda ones and they are really nice.
Never buy cheap ones.

It was dee-lish and at £1.88 a kilo - a bargain! Interestingly, Hugh Fearnley Knowsitall said in his programme last week that he reckoned offal would be coming back into fashion as people turn to cheaper cuts to eke out budgets.
Financial necessity has meant I've had to shake up the way I shop and make a lot of changes to the kind of thing I used to buy.
Out has temporarily gone my ethics unfortunately - a year ago everything in my trolley would have been organic/fairtrade/eco-friendly - if they didn't have the ethical version, I didn't buy it. In has gone a lot of shelf-edge calculation, trying to work out £/kg of everything but it takes twice as long to shop now! (and how are Tescos allowed to get away with not displaying the £/kg of a lot of things? Fruit and meat especially.)
So, what changes have you had to make in the spirit of belt-tightening? :j
Me too cooked and enjoyed liver after watching Hugh's programme last week. I used to buy a lot of liver when I was married as my husband loved it. Liver and onions were one of my cravings when I was pregnant, I used to eat it at least three times a week. I'll certainly be buying a lot more - don't think I fancy the lungs though :eek:0 -
ive not had liver since i was a kid, how do you cook it more to the point ive not seen it in asda (unless its the fact i dont look for it iykwim)
things are a bit less of a struggle now from the other day however im not going back non os waysand will still stick to a tight food budgetDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

mmmm................think i fancy liver now - anyone know if liver is any good for an anaemic person?? maybe i could use this as an excuse for bf - not sure he eats it. I think Offal will make a comeback although think il give the lungs and hearts a miss too - not sure im keen on neck either after watchign last night!!Time to find me again0 -
sammy kaye i think liver is good for anaemia, i was given a sheet with good foods on to eat when i left hospital after having ds3 and liver was on there (i hadnt been taking my iron tablets)
