Trying really hard to OS but the prices keep going up

I've been taking advantage of the Sainsburys vouchers - I've had about 6 free pints so far, and I've got 5 vouchers left! It may only be a small amount of milk, but it really does help offset the rising costs!
I know it's a bit late now but I took three vouchers with three pints up to the checkout and thought I would ask from the start, before she scanned the milk, whether she would take three vouchers. She said as long as I was buying three pints then she could do it, no problem. I didn't want to waste her time and mine by offering the vouchers afterwards if she could only allow one voucher per transaction but I thought it would save me having to keep taking just one pint to the till over several days.
It's always worth asking as it may save you a lot of wasted time going back to the shop just to get the freebies!I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!
I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!0 -

Hi Kath,
It's frightening isn't it! I've added your thread to the current thread on rising prices as it helps to keep all the replies together.

Is it worth stockpiling to save money in the long run, tinned stuff, rice and pasta. The farmers were pouring away milk and lots of countrys have stopped exports. So should you start a food stash just in case.
There was no coconut milk to be had anywhere this weekend.
I think we are gonna be in for food shortages by this time next year.0 -
I have started stockpiling rice and pasta from Lidl's.The 1kg bags of long grain rice are 43p in my local Lidl whereas Sainsbury's own brand is about £1.35 and the basics is 99p for the same size bag.It all has a date of 2010 so it should last me for a while.
My Lidl had been out of rice for over a week and I was expecting it to have gone up in price when it came back in,but it was still 43p today.
I am going to get in some tinned tomatoes and tinned beans too.0 -
I noticed in Tesco today that they're stocking the 3kg bags of pasta again. I think they were £2.97 each. I remember stocking up when they were £1 each, we even had pasta in the garage !!
Regards

Yeah we stock piled pasta too when the 3kg bags were £1. We ran out last week.
I had a huge haul of paotaoes yesterday (jersey royals) they were form £1.8? down to 10p a bag so i brought home 8, gave 3 to my mother in law and have frozen some, mashed some etc so we are ok for a while for spuds.
Have my stock cupboard going and although its tiny there is enough room that it could easily last us a few weeks if it had to - have 2 bags of rice, 1 pack of 8 sachts yeast, dream topping and the empty jars for jam making at the minute but will be adding to it tomorrow.
My freezer is full of discounted meat at the minute too - there seemed to be loads reduced the otehr day so i grabbed loads - now am aufficiently stocked in sausages, chicken portions, beef and porkTime to find me again0 -

i worry more now than i did before pre lightbulb i never thought before throwing in the trolly, recently ive been worrying more and more about how much basics will cost later in the year and then again next year.
going to check lidl out tomorrow to see if i can stock up on rice, pasta etc was trying not to spend for the week but since i need to use my bus card i may as well (fixed price after so many bus rides for the day), ive also got an £8.00 tesco clubcard voucher that i was going to convert but again i may pop down to stock up on dried goods
when i was younger we always had bread with meals (as im sure many on here did, it was always brought heavily reduced and froozen, being popped in oven to crisp just before dinner) im at this rate this will be something i start doing with my boysDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010
