Ive just read this thread start to finish... fast cars, ikea and high jinx... my 3 favourite things... it would be rude not to join in!

Im in a similar ish position that im the only one out of my once very wide group of friends to have settled down in to the whole, home owner, too skint to go clubbing 5 nights a week malarky and because of that ive gradually lost alot of friends over the last 6yr.

I used to be out in Newcastle 6 out of 7 nights a week before i had commitments and moved further away. I have no 'sensible' settled friends, just flighty unreliable hanger onnererers (< new word!) from my party days :o

    :rotfl: Loving the new word!

It's difficult isn't it when your group of friend take different paths. And at the end of the day if they can't cope with your change in lifestyle then they probably were worth it in the first place!

That is a very good way of putting it.

I walk past couples in Broadmead holding hands and start thinking I must be the only bloke in Bristol who isn't loved up.

There's your problem right there - you're walking around Broadmead. You want to head up Park Street and look at the students! :D I only walk around Broadmead if I need a confidence boost. A bit like shopping at Asda - by the time I get to the checkout I am confident I am the smartest, best looking and most together guy in the world.

Lucy - i still loving going out but just not doing all the things they do when they go out if you get me. Never have been and never will. Much prefer a few pints in a local and a bit of a dance in a club rather than hardcore destruction the next day

HBL - I do the same in Asda and my mam calls me a snob... but its great innit. She shops in asda like from force of habit but im a sainsburys girl. I really shouldnt say this, but the local sunshine club take their downs syndrome children on day trips to asda and it really is soul destroying to go. There has to be better places to take them!

With you completely. I love dancing and a couple of drinks, but I like to remember my nights out and be able to do something the next day (normally drive home!)

Hi ancasta, ooh that sounds so familiar! I moved here to be nearer to OH 18 months ago (we don't live together), and although I did already know some other people they don't live close enough to see them every week. Have made friends through work but they are either the 'go clubbing three nights a week' type which isn't me any more, or are married with kids and only go out three times a year. I've got none of the 'just pop to local bar for a couple of glasses of wine on a Wednesday night' type.. wonder why I spend so much time on the internet! :o :rotfl:

Im in the total same position Squirrel.

We moved to the country so not on a massively main bus route so that stops alot of people coming to see us, we both drive so say we'll always go to see people but they are either busy with their kids or out clubbing etc.

I miss having girlies come round for coffee, or go out to the cinema or something. Alot of my friends have been lads over the years as im a tom boy but i feel weird all of a sudden still going out 'with the lads' as i dont feel entirely appropriate although OH wouldnt mind.

Yeah, nothing worse than having to drive back after 5pm the next day just to be sure you're OK! Last time I went out I didn't drink and woke up the next day feeling just as rough. How does that work?
