I absolutely love golf. I took it up properly when I gave up playing football and refereeing. I had a talent for it ( how arrogant does that sound  ) but stopped when I moved up here.

I should start again but it's finding the time and the money to do it....

It's nice to have wander around on a sunday day, but that's about it! Is golf expensive to play? I know the clubs are to join.

You should try to make time!

I'm trying to persuade myself it's a bad idea but am very tempted to try some lessons and see how I do.

Right about time to go and do some exercise.

    Goodnight all

I really dislike golf on the grounds I am useless at it unless you mean proper golf.

If you want it hitting it a long way down a fairway like Tiger Woods and i fail miserably. If you want it round 2 right angles, through the windmill's sails and over a little bridge and I can do a hole in one every time!

:D :rotfl: , very good Boggles.

I meant normal golf. The last time I went to a driving range, I put my £2 into the machine to get out 40 balls to hit. Only at the very last micro-second did I notice the little sign that said "Please place your basket under the slot before putting your money in". That was it. I had 40 balls bouncing round at varying heights for ten minutes afterwards....

Lucy - it's quite expensive but there are bargains to be had. You can have a cheap round at Thornbury Golf Club on the 18-hole Par 3 course for a tenner at off peak times, I think.Clubs? I'd probably advise either hiring or buying a good second-hand set until you know you're going to play enough to make buying new worthwhile...

I just go to the driving range down the road from me, excellent place to waste an hour or so. Trying to hit the tractor collecting the balls or the man that does it. (again)

Hitting-the-tractor-driver should be a 2012 Olympic sport, methinks. . When I was learning to play, the tractor driver parked his vehicle about 40 yards away in a straight line from me. I suggested he moved and he said "Why? I'm perfectly safe here!!".....

Machines? Bah, too posh. We just get given a wire bucket with ish 40-50 balls in. It's pot luck really.

Great place though, I fancy going this weekend, think I'll give my mate a call see if he is free. :)
