I like cars and have driven some very big and expensive ones. But I know nothing about them and don't understand that level of interest.

Obviously the car is more interesting than they are.

Although I own a 'sports' addition festia so can't talk :D

As long as you don't have playboy stickers over it then I am sure you are ok :D

You're right, Hull is a VERY strange city!

We moved away from all our friends a few years ago and found it really hard as well. Recently I've made quite a few friends on t'interweb, mainly through this site and Netmums (no use to you if you don't have kids though, sorry!) and my OH takes the pee out of me, calling them my 'imaginery friends'! But I've met loads of people in the local area, while he's still trying to keep in touch with old uni mates all over the country, so he's starting to think I'm not a sad freak after all! While Netmums might not be any good to you, perhaps it's worth joining some sites that you do have an interest in? I know a lot of people get really involved in the Ebay forums for example, or collectors clubs?

Not meaning to be cheeky by this, but what about joining weight watchers or the like? Not to lose weight, but to meet people - I found them friendly when I went in the past, and if you've already lost loads of weight then you'll have loads of confidence to go with it and don't have to worry too much about following their diet!

oh who are you on netmums?:D My oh calls them my imaginary friends too:rolleyes:
    Sorry for hijacking..

I've been reading this thread with interest and thought I'd add my thoughts...

I do think that it is harder to meet new people when you have little or no money, simply because you go out less. Often in a DFWs lifestyle the social life is first to go because it's not a necessity, well, I know that that's the case for me anyhow. Then unless you have/had a big circle of friends to begin with you can find yourself a bit bored or isolated. After all, yeah you can have no spending days out but they are a bit more difficult to sort out and find than a trip to a pub or restaurant. I'm not moaning about all BTW, cos it's all my fault for spending too much in the past, but I'm a bit annoyed with myself- I never thought that all that buying rubbish would restrict my social life now! I don't have the answer to this, well, except to pay off the debts ASAP I suppose and not to be too strict with yourself.

Meeting people online- I could go on about this for hours. To make it short I just don't like it, I know that makes me totally unusual and a complete luddite but I just don't. I think that it's partly because, when you meet someone in 'real life' it's much more um...gentle and less assumptive (for want of better words). I mean that person could end up a friend, an acquaintance or a lover but it's much easier to gauge that when you meet organically whereas online I find it more of an assumption that everyone is 'lookin for lurve' . Or maybe that's my doirty mind!;) Anyway I don't like it, it scares me- must be my age lol:D
Now , don't get me wrong, I can chat on forums about money, the news and even TV progs all day but when it comes to one to one chatting and those dating/friendship sites I run a virtual mile.

I have realise fairly recently that I do need to get out more, otherwise I'm going to wake up when I'm older with just my computer for company. I've decided to make the effort more by in inviting people out and looking up some old friends, it just won't be done online!

Whilst I don't think that this forum is cliquey as such, it can, understandably I suppose, seem a bit family/couple oriented sometimes, so best of luck to all of the single DFWs out there, hope you all find what you're looking for.
