When I was little I had large ice cream tub that my mum filled with bits and bobs that no-one wanted. I’d assemble these into fantastic creations and leave them around to get trodden on by the next person to go to the toilet in the middle of the night.
Nowadays, I can’t bring myself to get rid of empty plastic bottles and they’re piling up on my bookshelves with a vengeance. Buttons, too. And random bits of metal that fall off light fittings and the like. I have no idea what I’m going to do with any of them and I really don’t have enough space to develop a compulsive hoarding habit.
I blame my mum.
Question: what sort of stuff do you hoard? Where do you keep it? Do you know what you’re going to use it for or do you just think it might come in useful one day?
And do your families think you’re mad?

 my weakness is plants.
I cannot resist taking cuttings from plants and most of them seem to grow.
I have baught small rubber plant and Swiss cheese plants that have turned into Triffids in no time.
When I got fed up with all of them I gave them all away.
then I spot another poor little weaklin.
Here we go again.

I hoard pretty much everything, but especially broken electronics and little mechanical components etc. I have no idea why, as I'm not really practical enough to make use of any of it:rolleyes:.
For those whose hoarding problem is getting out of control but who can't bear to throw stuff away, Freecycle could be the answer to your problems.0 -
I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread
I think I'd get a gold medal if hoarding was an Olympic sport
Anything and everything basically and I have drawers, tins, tubs, large plastic storage boxes etc full of basically junk! I was searching for my old camera's USB cable the other night (which I still can't find and I want to sell the camera on Ebay :wall: ) and I came across all sorts of oddments, some spanning back to when my eldest was a baby (he's 20 now!) and are totally useless now ... odd bits of puzzle from games which never made their way back into their rightful box, but the games have been long since discarded, screws from his cot, various cables/leads/wires/plugs etc, oh the list is endless ...
I'm even worse in the kitchen keeping any plastic/glass container/bottle etc in case it might come in handy for storage/microwave use etc ...
I'm snowed under with cardboard boxes saved from various deliveries to use when I eventually sort out all this junk, and also for packing when I move again ...
On a brighter note though, I have over the last few days managed to clear some space to actually get into my bedroom at last and have sorted through three boxes of "junk" keeping just essential stuff (which has gone into yet another plastic storage box LOL!) with a few things to sell on Ebay and a pile of junk to throw out which my ex is taking away for me later this evening :j
Which reminds me ... I know this probably isn't the right place to ask but I know you're a knowledgeable lot here ... I have an old turntable from a JVC stack system I used to own. I can't remember why I decided to keep just the turntable and throw out the rest as it won't work without a suitable amp/system to plug into, so is it worth me hanging onto it any longer (any resale value?) or should I send that to the tip with the ex too"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

It might be worth a fiver to someone at a boot sale if it works, and the cartridge still has its stylus. Alternatively you could get hold of an amplifier and speakers and use it to listen to some records- vinyl still sounds better than CD IMHO:).0 -
They sell a fair number of stereo kits without a record player built in these days so I've kept mine. Then guess which steaming great poodle forgot to look at the back of his shop soiled new one to make sure it had places TO PLUG THINGS IN...?

I think this is why I originally kept it as I also have several boxes of vinyl, dating back as early as the 70's, that I just can't bear to part with either despite the fact I've got almost all my faves either on CD or MP3 now
I think I'm a bit of a hopeless case
The stylus is still intact and almost unused as this was the first system I bought that had a single CD player, back in ermmmm around 1988/9, and I ended up using the CD and tape deck more than vinyl. I actually remember the day I bought it, along with a new washing machine, back in the days you could go down the leccy shop and get credit as long as you had an electric supply account, and you paid them back over 12/18mths with very little interest added LOL!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Sheesh!
Ah well this is the problem I face now as the last little midi or mini (whatever they're called) JVC system I bought about 5 years ago, with multi-CD player whatnots, doesn't have anywhere to plug in the turntable either
I think I would have to go back to buying "separates" and get a proper amp if I ever want to use it myself again (if such things are still around) and to be honest I play all my music through my PC these days so can't see me ever doing that
The eldest did mention wanting some decks at one point ... you reckon this one would be any good? :rotfl:
Thing is I think it's something that's probably more suited to a carboot sale than Ebay, isn't it? ... and I can't see me getting to do one of those anytime soon unfortunately, although I've got loads of stuff that would go well at a carboot"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Christmas and birthday cards from special friends or with particularly funny or lovely pictures/illustrations/verses. I have shoe boxes full of them, going back I suppose about 30 years
.
I know the Xmas ones are just written one afternoon in a "better get them done" mood like I do my own, and aren't meaningful to the sender, but I still hoard them anyway.
I do need to get out more.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
