  • Lunar Eclipse -sorry forgot to say that everything she does she has asked to do . She is slowly but surely giving it all up one by one , just today she said she doesn't want to do ballroom anymore . She isn't pressured into doing anything , she asks to do everything , she asks to give up whatever she has grown bored of and I say so long as she is sure then she can stop . She is extremely mature for her age . She even asked the other day if she could join gymnastic club on a Saturday morning but I said no , she does enough already . The only other thing she keeps on about religiously is getting a pony , has done since the age of 3 , but again there is no way at the moment she is getting one as guess who would be doing all the hard work , muggins here ! If when she is at secondary school she still wants to get a pony then we will review the situation then .

Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .

what in the real world ? So I take it you don't have gay people , single parents , divorced people or pubs and market stalls where you live then ?

TBH, I really don't get this pedantic very often but that phrase bugs me even more than 'should of and could of' - although it's not as bad as referring to children as 'feral' or 'dross' I suppose, as an earlier poster did.:rotfl:

Nothing winds me up more than people who think feral children don't exist.

    Another one today:

Two teenagers are jailed for murdering a woman because she was a Goth, in what the judge calls an act of "feral thuggery".

Sophie Lancaster was kicked and stamped to death by Brendan Harris, 15, and Ryan Herbert, 16, in Stubbylee Park in Bacup, Lancashire, last summer.

The attackers did not know the couple, who were both Goths, and the only motive was they simply looked different, the court heard.

Three other teenagers, two aged 17 and a 16-year-old were also jailed for the attack on Mr Maltby.

Passing sentence at Preston Crown Court, Judge Anthony Russell QC described the attack as "feral thuggery" which raised serious questions about the "sort of society which exists in this country".

He added: "This was a terrible case which has shocked and outraged all who have heard about it.

"At least wild animals, when they hunt in packs, have a legitimate reason for so doing, to obtain food.
"You have none and your behaviour on that night degrades humanity itself.
  • I know of people who will not send their daughters to private school because they believe they will end up being SAHM and thus (to a degree) 'waste' their education. (Don't shoot the messenger!)

Hi meester - I'm sure well educated people kill people too - spouses, etc - but can't be bothered finding the evidence:p -but there was Lord Lucan just for starters. I think he was posh enough.:rotfl:

Lunar Eclipse - Do you think this argument about girls becoming SAHMs is just the age old argument that girls are not worth educating privately because their education is not as important. Are the fees for girls still cheaper than the fees for boys?

I'd say so yes. (Not my opinion I'd like to add.) And I'm not sure about fee differentials. I'd be very surprised. I have only looked into fees for girls and they are enough! :D

Yeah she is 8 , why , do you think she shouldn't be watching it ? Just curious . Her school starts at 8.45am so even she went round the corner we would still have been up since 7.30am . Its far from military , if I am running late , which I often am , or sat in traffic then she turns up at school when she turns up and doesn't have to answer to anybody .

Yes, I think EastEnders is totally unsuitable for a child of that age, regardless of their maturity. I'd say it becomes debatable once they are of Secondary school age. Do you think it's suitable (in the conscious light of day)?

My daughter is also 8 and comparatively mature. I'm sure she'd love to watch EastEnders too if I let her. She's caught it a couple of times when staying at Grandma's, which is ironic given my Dad not allowing me to watch it at 15 (initially)! But it's not an option.

I agree the issues do represent real life, but in the East End of our capital city - not everyday suburbia. So they are not issues I would want her exposed to, nor are they issues that she sees on a daily basis currently. Not to mention the fact that they speak dreadfully (IMO - but kids do sadly immitate) and the characters aren't good role models either, in the main.

Additionally, I think it is on from 7.30-8 which I think is too late to be watching TV. And I'm also surprised that you pay for priviledged education yet allow her to watch such appauling TV. Or is it for balance? :D

I can't think any of her friends at school would be watching it.

Funny cos I thought single parents , gays etc were everywhere , I was a single parent living in Kent , or was that a figment of my imagination ? Her grandad's brother got "married" 2 years ago this June to his partner and she attended the civil partnership ceremony . She speaks nothing like the characters , although the area we live in borders London , only 5 miles up the road , so most people round here speak with a London accent . She also discusses it at school with her school mates who also watch it so I can't be the only one then can I ?
