    Hi Dh,

There are many state schools were there is no disruption whatsoever. Even in those schools were there is some disruption most teachers and staff are trained to deal with it, so that it doesn't interrupt learning. I think a good Headteacher is really important in this regard.:cool:
    :T :T
Long post but definitely worth it!:D

So far this is also my experience in our primary school.
Good (and 1 outstanding !) teachers, a lot of parent involvement in the school and happy children doing well.
My kids are all very smart and are well stretched to their abilities. Weaker pupils are well supported and generally make satisfactory progress.

You are lucky. My local state schools are rubbish and IMHO would not support my daughter's needs. Hence private schooling.:D

The problem is that as a child if your parents can just afford to send you there and they have to save and scrimp, then you will be bullied mercilessly unfortunately.

Not nice, but that is just the law of the playground.

!!!!!!? erm, never happened where i went to school

Oh dear - this thread is full of ill-informed educational ignorance and rotten snobbery. The OPs kid is 2. The childs future will be settled in the next 3 years.
Spend time with them now developing basic skills- reading, numbers, writing, and drawing.
Send them to nursery so they learn to get on with people
Then send them to the local state school where they will do just fine.

What on earth qualifies you to make this last statement? How in heaven's name do you think you know this?
I find your post particularly patronising, and quite rude actually.

Because until you have tried the local school for yourself you shouldn't dismiss it?
It may not look brilliant and still be decent.
You say I am lucky; my DD started school in Australia (we were on assignment there), in a remote town. The school was very average and primary education in Australia is rather laid back. We came back in October of her UK year 2; She still managed to get a level 3 in all her sats when we came back to the UK.

What you do with your child has a lot of influence on their achievements ; it is not just what goes on in the classroom that counts.

and how long had she been attending f-time school for (in australia) Mado? I was under the impression (maybe wrong) that they start school at a later age than in the U.K?

Which surely says more about the low standards over here. I've got a similar example in fact to back up the point. My stepdaughter did Reception and Year 1 here, then went to live with her grandparents overseas for 3 years. She came back for Year 5 and is about to sit her Year 6 SATs. She is top of the class and has been for a long time...
