Warning Fake Ugg Boots!!!!

  • This should clear up the name issue (see below): Ugg now is a general term for that type of boot, if you want to have the ones that all the celebs are wearing then you are after Ugg Australias and these wont be found for sale in Australia, they are manufactured in China under the compnay of Deckers.

Be very careful of Australian sites, i got caught out bying a pair for my sister, she did not want genuine ones so i found fake ones that look very similar from www.uggbootshop.com.au but they have never arrived and i ordered them on 5th Jan, they dont have a tracking system and are proving near impossible to get my money back from.

If you want Genuine ones then i recommend www.topbootsmart.com, they are better priced than in the UK even with shipping and they arrive from China within a week which is better than shipping in the UK from a lot of companies. It is 100% trackable as well and i ordered £200 worth and did not get charged customs.

In 1971, Shane Stedman registered the term Ugh-boot and other terms as trademark with the Australian Trade Mark Registry. These trademarks lapsed due to non-usage, but were subsequently sold to the American company Deckers Outdoor Corporation, which also registered other trademarks, such as UGG Australia in 1999. By 2003, Deckers had begun a campaign of legal threats against Australian manufacturers and vendors using variants of "ugh boots" to describe their wares.
As a result, Bruce and Bronwyn McDougall, owners of Uggs-N-Rugs, a Western Australia-based manufacturer, started legal action to have ug, ugg and ugh boots removed from the Australian Trademarks Registry. In January 2006, they succeeded in having Deckers's Australian trademark removed, and the words and the names were once again generic terms for sheepskin boots. Ian Thompson, Delegate of the Registrar of Trade Marks, stated: "[t]he evidence overwhelmingly supports the proposition that the terms UGH BOOT(S), UG BOOT(S) and UGG BOOT(S) are interchangeably used to describe a specific style of sheepskin boot and are the first and most natural way in which to describe these goods which should innocently come to the minds of people making this particular style of sheepskin boot."[1]

    THEY ARE FAKE!

My boyfriend bought me a pair for my birthday and I was very disappointed when I saw that they were fake :-(
  • http://www.uggstore.com.au/

Just wanted to add another website that i would reccomend avoiding. I bought a pair of ugg boots for £90 from this 'store'. Since they are £150 here at the moment, i thought it was a bargain but as they say 'if it looks too good to be true....' lol

Anyway, recieved boots and they are AWFUL! One is taller than the other, the 'sheepskin' is fake with the fake fur falling out of the inside, the stitching was a total mess-my 7 year old could have done better! I did think that they were the deckers uggs but since buying them i discovered that in small writing at the bottom of the website it does state that they are not deckers uggs so that is my own mistake. However, thats not the point-if they were wearable i would keep them but for £90 when they are not even worth £20- they are laughing!

Having searched net for other peoples experiences of this website i see everyone has the same problems as me and all have said when they try to return they get no reply or a denial the boots have been recieved back. I sent them back 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing but we'll see...i'm not holding out much hope after reading this from others though.

Funny, on the website there is pages of testimonials all giving the company 5 stars and saying how wonderful the company are..not one complaint at all!

    AND....sorry, i'm nearly fineshed:p...

They charge a 15% restocking fee and you have to pay all shipping costs if they do accept your return..however that would be better than nout at all!
  • Know how u feel. I bought a pair on uggsky website and when they arrived i was so disappointed. They smelled and looked so cheap. I paid around £70 for them also. Postage on the website was free. I have since returned them for a refund. They have emailed me now saying that initial postage is not refundable around $20. I take it that means they will take $20 of the refund. Plus i had to pay £11.80 to return them. Will be interesting to see if they even bother to refund me anything at all. Wishing i had never purchased but have definately learned my lesson with buying Uggs online. You just dont know what you getting and its nothing but hassle trying to get a refund!

I cant stand UGG boots, vile things, and the way girls walk in them is weird they all seem to walk on half sole half side of boot.

I have noticed that too, heels always seem to slop over the side when the girls walk.
And I agree they do look ugg-ly!

However, guess what, my daughter wants a pair for Christmas. So now I don't know what to do.

Seems to me you can get:
Genuine Deckers but are overpriced, made in China (sweatshop labour sold at high price huh?)
Non Decker, but legitimate UGGs from generic maker (prob Australian).
Fake UGGs from who-knows-where and who-knows-what quality.

What a minefield this has proved to be.
I just don't know how to sort it all out.
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.

So emmalg, I am no more confident about this one than any of the others.

Always find it a bit fishy when a 1 time poster makes a ringing endorsement of a website.

Frankly I think anyone that knowingly buys fake products deserves the shoddy products and poor value that will inevitably arrive. Assuming of course that the seller doesn't just leg it with the money.

My wife bought EMUs. They are a good brand and good quality, but not as expensive as Deckers. She has two pairs and loves them.
