This product is at the pre-launch stage in the UK so I could be wrong on this... but it looks like the Garmin Street Pilot i3 will come complete with a Europe-wide map pre-loaded. See here for map coverage - look up City Select Europe map v.7. The extended standard basemap of all Europe will however only cover major European roads whilst the UK & Ireland map will have detailed coverage including post-code mapping and list places of interest. It appears that these last 2 features have been added in direct response to consumer comments about the earlier C320 and C330 models lacking these functions.
At £199.99 (+ further £10 discount if you have a voucher), it looks to be an excellent price. It does say "time-limited" offer, however, so I guess if you want it at this price it's a case of make your decision soon and get your order in quick (within the next week)!0 -
I managed to pick up a Kirrio SatNav system for the Palm Tungsten E for under a tenner at my local Dixons near Victoria (they were having a stockroom clear out):
http://www.dixons.co.uk/product.php?sku=859022
Comes with GPS mouse, car holder with 3 ways of connecting, ciggy charger, software and UK maps (though early 2004) etc.
All I need now is a Tungsten E - Argos are selling for £75, so a full Sat Nav for under £85 by my reconing!

just had a look at the dixon site... wow. wooping £40 off is great.
the only problem is that i have heard people saying that the compact system (PDA, Mobile) has slower reaction, especially in big city like London!0 -
I use a mini laptop with a sat nav ugiwotsit on windows and find that it can be quite slow and temperamental. I've even had the software crash half way there! It's more stable under linux but needs some tweeking to set it up correctly.
Are the all in ones (i.e. no need for laptop / palm) any better?0 -
I have an all-in Medion (Aldi Special Offer £229 a few weeks ago) it is so wonderful to have a stress free journey. It has only once let me down (I think I pressed the wrong button or something.....) but all I had to to was re-set it using the stylus and it was up and running again instantly.
It doesn't have the speed camera locations, but I understand you can download them from the internet.
Its main drawback, for me, is that you have to input the address, rather than just the postcode. But usually it will correctly predict the location from the first 3 or 4 letters, so its not such a big deal.
Much better than maps.... I can't read them without my glasses, and I can't see anything else with them.... so can no longer drive along with an open map on the passenger seat. It comes to us all, I'm told.... :rotfl:I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Hi all
I already have an iPaq - does anyone know the best option to add satnav to that, as I don't really want to buy another piece of kit.
Thanks, jdTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

Hi everybody,
I’m afraid that I can’t help on best deals for SatNav, as you folks here will always find a better deal than me. However before you hand over your hard earned money you might want to visit the PocketGPSWorld website and forum, for advice on SatNav systems.
Also, you can download the free PocketGPSWorld camera database, which is updated each month and the latest version was updated on 29th August 2005. You can use the PocketGPSWorld camera database with a number of SatNav systems (e.g. TomTom, Navman, CoPilot, etc) so you don’t have to buy a dedicated camera detector. Now that’s what I call money saving!

I use an iPAQ 2210, TomTom Navigator 5, and a GlobalSat BT-338 (Bluetooth GPS receiver) for my SatNav system.
Note to the mods, I hope that ‘s OK for me to post the above links. Apologies if it’s not.0
