Steam Cleaner - is it worth getting one?
Comments
-
Am thinking of getting a steam cleaner to tackle ingrained dirt, especially as would like to reduce chemical overload in the house, considering family allergies and today's news on the BBC about links between even one weekly dose of household chemicals and developing asthma.
So, does anyone who has a steam cleaner recommend them - are they worth the money? And if so, which one?
Might ask for one for xmas if it sounds worth it...
Thanks!0 -

Steam cleaner - worth the money?
I would like a Steam Cleaner (advice please!)

Hi carolt! I've got a steam cleaner, which while I don't use it that often, I wouldn't be without, if that makes sense. I think the lack of use is actually down to where it's stored rather than it's usefulness.
I don't find it quite the miracle worker the old polti advert made out, but it is very good. Great for cleaning the oven etc, and for a deep clean in the bathroom. Mines a karcher ( can't remember which model) so quite a bit cheaper than a polti. Great also for cleaning hard floors. They say it's good for carpets but I've got a good carpet cleaner so have never used it for that.
It did make quick work of degreasing the vile kitchen cabinets my DIL inherited in their house. Made them feel the kitchen had been sterilised and that they could use the cupboards:rotfl:
My advice would be get one, but not one of the very cheap ones, they don't have the steam capacity or pressure to achieve much. HTH

Hi
They do a good job BUT for some unknown reason ours was used for a couple of days and has sat in the box under the stairs for probably the last 4 years without seeing the light of day. I've never used it but OH must have succumbed to some advertising and like I said its not been used since.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
I have the polti - red one but I bought the iron attachment and I use it all the time - would not be without itSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

we have a polti and have had it for at least 9 years very good. although it was expensive 300.00 it has been worth every penny. don't use it every day but it is grat for keeping the dust at bay, cleaning carpets, matressess, curtians, my husband uses it to clean the cars alloy wheels. We had it repaired a few years ago when the seal went. Polti have a very good after sales sevices, they gave us a quote before the repair was carried out and it has been fine since.0

Like the others we have one & although we don't use every week or even every month, it's been a godsend.
I think it's particularly good when you're preparing to decorate because you can use it to properly clean & degrease surfaces for painting & for stripping wallpaper.
I have tiled floors in the hall & kitchen & it's great for getting the muck out from between the tiles when it gets ground in. I also like to use it on soft furnishings when spring cleaning because it kills dust mites.0 -
As part of my swopover to natural cleaning materials - rather than chemicals - was wondering about whether a steamer would be a good idea and, if so, which one.
Thinking it could be a good idea for "shampooing" flooring (whether carpet, vinyl or laminate) basically - but wondering about other possible uses as well.

Hi
I bought my steam cleaner from pricedrop TV for about £15 including postage and I wouldn't be without it, haven't used a single chemical in my bathroom since I bought it a year ago, apart from the obligatory bleach down the toiletWell worth the money in my opinion.
