I quite fancy that Polti steam cleaner myself. Occasionally, Ideal World have it at 'lower than their usual price'.

I like the idea of being able to steam blast those tight spaces around the hinges on the toilet seat - three young dgs's, 2 ds's and an OH all leave their trademark in that department.

I also like the idea of blasting off some of the stale grease areas that are hard to shift around the cooker lid/oven door glass/knobs/hob pan rests.

I have a polti steam 'mop' and also a handheld steamer. The steam mop can be used on carpeted and hard floor surfaces. Both preloved but still in fine working order. I don't use them as often as i should.

    Hi csarina,

I've added your thread to the existing one on steam cleaners where you'll find lots of advice. Do come back and let us know if you bought one and how you got on.

To be honest I am more confused than ever, I have read the reviews of the Polti, some are not good at all.........it appears that you have to hold a button down rather then press it and it stays in, that could prove to be a problem with my hands.

I would like to be able to clean the carpets and settee as well as the bathroom and kitchen floors and then there is cleaning the bed......oh dear.....

Hello, yesterday I recieved my new steam cleaner.. The main reasons I bought it were to clean my hob, the hinges of the toilet seat and around the taps/sinks. I've done all these jobs now and I'm wondering what I can do next? My carpets dont need cleaning really as I shampoo them once a month, and I usually just wipe over my sofas as the main grubbiness that gets on them is chocolate handprints from my kids.

So what do you use your steam cleaner for? Can it be used on painted surfaces eg walls/radiators/pipes? Wooden chairs? Plastic highchair for dried on food?

I use my steam cleaner to clean everything except wallpaper (I'm frightened it steams it off). I clean doors, furniture, stair banister, skirting boards, basically anything you could clean with a damp cloth. You can also use it to clean windows, inside fridges/cookers and it's brilliant for defrosting the freezer. Or what about freshening up curtains? Just give them a blast as they hang.

Very good for tiled areas, such as the bathroom and kitchen.
For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

pudsey have you checked that the pipe isn't block and that it's not suffering from limescale?

my steamer is really old but still works well and it was only an argos £10 thing many years ago.
