Had some very distressing news this morning. My nephew's wife delivered a (fulll-term) stillborn baby girl today. It's so upsetting and the family is numb. Can anyone suggest a suitable verse for putting in a condolence card?

Sorry to bring the thread down.

Anniebooklover - I'm so sorry and my thoughts are with you, your nephew and his wife and the rest of the family.

I don't have any suggestions for a verse I'm afraid - what about just a message from your heart?

    Little Snowdrop

    The world may never notice
    If a Snowdrop doesn't bloom,
    Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.

But every life that ever forms,
    Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
    For all eternity.

The little one we long for
    Was swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.

And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do.
    Every beating of our hearts
    Says that we love you.

Annie, I'm so sorry for that desperately sad news. A friend of mine who lost a baby received this poem, and found it comforting. I don't know whether you feel it appropriate.

edited to add, she did receive some snowdrop bulbs to plant in memory of her baby.

    Morning everybody :hello:

    ((((smoky))))
    ((((Penny-Pincher!!))))
Martyn, hope everything is going OK for you at the moment.

Christabell, I hope you manage to find us OK today ;):D Why not pop in again for a chat :hello:

redruby, I'm really pleased you found my advice helpful. And thanks to dannahaz for pointing out that website. I hope you enjoy the CDs :) As for live performance, although the major companies don't really come anywhere near you (Welsh National Opera tours to Southampton, and Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Glyndebourne Touring Opera are based near Lewes) there are a lot of tiny companies that "get about" a bit more, and touring productions by Eastern European companies reach a large number of regional theatres. I will keep my eyes open for anything that looks like it's coming your way :)

I am currently in the office battling with a spreadsheet full of figures  but TGIFriday! Got a reasonably quiet weekend planned - going to a symphony concert on Sunday evening, but otherwise no plans. I can't remember the last time I had a clear Saturday night, so am really looking forward to it! I need to be creative and think of what to cook so as to use up various perishables in the fridge. Although my signature looks pretty bad this month, I'm actually doing quite well on my storecupboard challenge which was the reason for setting myself such a low grocery budget for the month. Every time I finish a packet of something and throw it out, it's giving me a great sense of satisfaction :D Now, if only I could think of a similar way to declutter the rest of my flat/life (unlike the storecupboards, I can't get rid of most of my junk simply by eating it :rotfl: )

Got my payslip yesterday and set about working out how the tax changes affect me. On the one hand, the change from 22% to 20% with the abolition of the 10% bracket makes me better off. On the other hand, I knew that my tax code had been changed to a much lower figure to accommodate some adjustments that I declared a few months back, making me worse off. I've worked it all out now, though it took some doing (as the actual amount I'm taking home is almost identical!) - all I need to do is factor the amount I'd put aside for the additional tax into my projected monthly salary for the year. Once I'd sorted it, I found I am a bit better off - in fact, by almost exactly the amount my rent and council tax rose this month :rotfl: So after two hours working it out, the net result to my finances is I'm no better or worse off than I was last month, which I'm actually perfectly happy with, all things considered.

Do they teach practical stuff like this in GCSE Maths? They didn't in my day, and they should. I really had to put my thinking cap on to work it out.

Anyway I think I am beating mioliere on the waffle front this morning! So best be off. I'm going to the gym at lunchtime for an Aqua Circuit class and to pick up the new timetable which starts from 28th April.

    Love Rzl xx

P.S. I missed seeing your post, anniebooklover. Big ((((hugs)))) to your nephew, his wife and the rest of the family. A former colleague experienced something similar a couple of years ago, and her husband has just run the London Marathon raising over £5k for SANDS. They had a huge amount of help and support from SANDS and also from various forums for people who have lost babies - in fact a lot of the £5k he raised was from people from the forums. There is really tons of support out there.

Annie, I think just a few words of your own will mean so much to them, one can't imagine how they must be feeling.

See to be lots here with probs at the moment, I may feel $h*t, but at the end of the day, it's only 'flu'.

Master Ivy and Miss Ivy have gone to school today. I'm still here on the sofa, but have made a little bit of an effort. Do one little job and then sit back down for a bit. WM full of shirts, with any luck MIL will offer to iron. BM on, DW on, was naughty and just shoved what would go in and ran a bowl of soapy water and left the rest.
