    Hi there,
I have sent a letter to GE Money asking to reclaim from a loan taken out to cover my mother's partner. She settled a £60,000 loan and £6000 at least was for PPI.
The company have referred me back to the broker Ocean Finance, I find the whole system confusing. I was also referred to the insurance company themselves. Who do I claim from?
The case (not the insurance part) has been to the FOS against one company but the complaint was not upheld. Can anyone help please?

I am trying to claim PPI on my Barclaycard account which I have closed in 2006. When I arrived to the UK and opened my bank account, the staff of Barclays offered me a credit card and pushed me to sign up to PPI as they told me it was the only way to get my application accepted as I did not have any credit history. Obviously, back then (2003) being new to this country, I did not know any different and accepted and never questioned it.

Barclaycard sent me their final response after 3 days from my letter, saying that they acted in the right way, blah blah blah... I have sent my complaint to the Ombudsman and am now awaiting their feedback on the case.

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

    HI
Im trying to claim from barclays as well and they are a pain to deal with. We had 3 loans with them.
To day received a partial result from my request for SAR just two pages and its taken from the 14th January to get to this stage
I dont know what the best plan of action is to get them to speed up apart from bombarding them with letters.
I`ll send another one tomorrow requesting the rest of our infromation as its against the law to withhold it I think.
    Good luck

    Hello,
Again asking for help with Barclays.
I`ll apologise first for this being somewhat long winded.
We took a loan out on 20th january 2005, with PPI
    We`re both self employed
    Cash loan Premium loan
    Amount of loan 5,100 1,201.80
    charge for credit 2.035.80 479.40
    monthly repayments 118.93 28.02 = 146.95
    no of payments 60 60

Insurance Premium at a rate of 5%
I dont really know what I actually paid is it £1681.20 ?

    Now for the story
Firstly it has been rejected on the basics that my OH made a successful claim on 2nd April 2007 . They paid 1 months but he was off work for nearly 5 months (broken leg) I dont understand this.

We were finanically suffering at this time ,no sick pay for the self employed,
and to cut a long story short missed a few payments on a few things.Getting charges left right and centre.
So we went to the bank to ask for some help or guidence. I really wish I hadnt bothered.

She told us the best thing to do was consolidate ok in theory and put everything into our morgage reserve fund. I ask what was the intrest on this only to be told " Not to worry about it just pay it back as soon as you can"
We now pay £70 a month of which £63 is interest!!!
When i discovered how much it was costing us I tried ringing her on the number she gave us never to get a reply about 20 phone calls. I eventually gave up.

Thanks to this site and all the good people on it I`ve reclaimed quite a bit but Barclays is eluding me.

    Sorry for diverting
the loan was closed on the 18th June 2007 and £3612.60 transfered to morgage reserve and an insurance refund of £325.72 interest charged £15.32.

I have also sent a SAR (thanks to Laini again) to them + the £10 fee as I suspect we havent been treated fairly dated 27th May 2008.

Any help at all will be very gratually received

    Hi MWH1

I have copied and pasted Laini's letter and saved in on my pc - the reason I haven't sent it off its because I am also trying to reclaim credit card charges i.e. late / overlimit fees on the same card. I have sent them the £10 for this information which they cashed on 17th June - I am still waiting for a list of these charges. I didn't know whether I'd need to send another £10 for a list of PPI charges - I don't really want to pay twice! (Why should I?!!)

Good luck reclaiming your PPI - let me know how you get on!

    Thanks again!

If this is the same account you shouldn't need to send a separate SAR. They have 40 days from date of receipt to respond to you. What did you ask them to provide in the SAR? My expectation is that you'll find it easier to reclaim the credit card charges than the PPI. However, don't be put off! A number of people posting on the success forum were told to "clear off" (in as many words!) after their initial complaint. Some had to refer their complaint to the FOS. I guess patience is a virtue! ;)

hi well I think there's a number of things going on here, firstly as you've made a claim on the ppi you can't make a reclaim - however, you need to make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman as to why you only received one months payout on the insurance when your OH was off for 5 months and the fact you have been totally out of pocket etc because of this.. which led to Barclays advising you to take out a reserve account which sounds a total con to me but I think that's a different issue to the reclaiming PPI and unfortunately I don't now enough about those issues to be able to help - other than again suggest you take the whole complaint to the FOS, (have you tried for help on the Loans forum as it sounds as though what Barclays advised you to do is totally wrong ie not in your best financial interests)

Hi Laini, still no news then:mad: .

As regards the ICO i found them annoying when they told me that "if they don't have the things you are asking for then they don't have them". Also i was told by them "they wouldn't want to incriminate themselves would they??". Loads of help to me they were. It might have been the fact that my actual loan was over 6 years ago but settling it was only 5 years ago so i thought they had to keep all records. (Firstplus at least, not Freedom so much)

As i say, i found these a waste of time. It was a case of my word against theirs.

As regards cmac, their loan was only 2005 so they SHOULD have the records.

I think you should write to them cos phone calls are a waste of time.
do one of your letters to them explaining you are unhappy with your SAR result.
I will see if I can get to you one to tweak
    still no news
lets give them time to have a coffee its only 9.10am
still fighting for my money !!!
