Actually, whoever said we should give some money to hurricane katrina has a good point.
I get so cross with myself when i get chopsy over little things. The people who have lost everything really have something to get chopsy about:rudolf:0 -

Hi
I ordered in the knowledge that the chance of getting one at this price was pretty slim, but you never know!
But the problem I have with argos is the fact they took the money out of my account 5 days ago and it still isn't back. Reading the BBC news website it says that 10000 people ordered, if they took the cash from everyone that is £54400 sat in an account gaining interest for 5 days (so far)..........0 -

They are not making any money out of this. They probably will lost money, both on the balance sheet and through lost productivity
If you are so worried about " the interest " then work it out. Or else read back in the thread and you will see for yourself.
The MSE understanding of ecomomics astounds me. Big companies bad, profits, interest, ripping us off etc ...0 -
MSE_Martin wrote:I am going to speak to Argos tomorrow, and ask if as well as repaying people's £5s they would be willing to donate one TV to a childrens hospital in the name of MSE'ers as an apology
Let's see how we go.
That's not a good idea, pick another charity as most Hospitals now use private firms to supply TV's at the bedside. This could be different with children but would be good to find out for sure before asking for a MSE TV.0 -

I can't see Argos making any money out of the interest .... but it seems to me that the law allows companies to take money without entering into a contract....hence the possibility is there for companies to abuse the law. If the TV had been offered £50 then the money taken starts to become significant.0 -

I was just thinking that myself after watching the news this morning.0 -

Still can work out less than a grand (although I don't know how there system works in regards to transfering money), and homebase alone spent over £30 MILLION in advertising last year.
I, personnally, would consider £1000 significant, for a company such as GUS, who turned over £7.79B for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2005, (source http://today.reuters.co.uk/stocks/CompanyProfile.aspx?symbol=GUS.L) I don't beleive it would consider £1000 a significant amount of money.
According to an article here http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFriendly/0,,1-2-1759207,00.html "Argos blamed a keying malfunction, “resulting from a genuine internal error”, for the inaccurate pricing." So, pass the buck onto the worker, and not the lack of procedures in the company.0 -
alanshave wrote:I think some people on these forums really need to take a step back here, when did I ever say that I ordered hundreds of these TV's? Thats right, I didn't. So why assume that I did and start insulting me and other students?!! Some people are just too quick to pass judgement.
Infact I ordered 2 tv's and 2 three year warranties, and if thats greed then I really am sorry! lol. I get the feeling a few people owe me apologies. Namely astep70uk, jay05, dadada, c_smith and amancalledchip.
You are correct alanshave. Please accept my humble apologies!0
