Great Thread Wonder-Lander, Its lovely to see the Eggs ....
We have two bird families in our Garden.... Blackbirds at the back and Sparrows in the front both seem to be getting ready for new arrivals! I sat for ages and watched Mr Blackbird feeding Mrs Blackbird with worms the other day... So Cute.

Mr Blue Tit brings Mrs Blue Tit her early morning breakfast. Unfortunately it's slightly too large to manage in the nest so she pops outside to eat it.
Looks like 7 eggs is our total for 2009 as it's remained at 7 for a about a week now.

After months of waiting I can confirm that this morning of the 7 eggs we currently have 4 chicks! Still hopeful that the remaining 3 will hatch shortly!

Gosh how tiny and very cute!!I'm still suprised they don't squash or suffocate them when they sit on them!0

Thats brilliant, I hope they all do well.
Sadly in my daughters birdbox,( she had a pair of great tits) the eggs hatched ok, but after 5 days the mother went missing, the father tried to feed them but overnight they all died. It was very upsetting.0 -
christon1, sorry to hear about your daughters birdbox.
Another update for today!
Well during the day we've had another hatchling.
The attached link shows how the mother disposes of the empty shells and there is another video of the both parents in the nest feeding the chicks

Well, the same thing's happened this year as last year. Seven dead babies, all starting to grow feathers, with seven little beaks looking skywards for their next meal which never came.
It's the same box as last year, too. The other box is going gangbusters with mum & dad trying to feed their babies.
I've cleaned it out with boiling water and put it up again in case they (or another pair) try for a second brood.0
