Apple iphone (8gb) price reduced to £169 from tomorrow

my son bought one last month, and it is a lovely piece of kit, however he asked the salesman if it would be going down in price any time soon and the man said "Oh no it wont be going down for months" now did he know it would be coming down this month or not? If he did it was a lie and so surely my son could ask for some compensation, maybe some free months rental? Do you think it would be worth him going in the shop and asking the man?
No way would he have known for sure anyway.
No point going in, he is just wasting his time in all honesty."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Transaction was straight forward at the O2 shop in Buchanan St, Glasgow:
Q: Do you have the iPhone for £169?
A: Yes
Q: Do I need to sign up for anything?
A: No, you just pay the £169 and take the phone away.
2 x 8gb iPhones handed over and paid by card. Nothing on the outside of the box stating any terms and conditions. By the time I open the box it is too late, I have bought the items and they are my property. Interestingly enough the only mention on a contract on the receipt - which is too late anyway - mentions a short term contract at £25 per month.
No contract has been formed other than the purchase of the hardware.
One I saw said that you were required to enter a contract with o2 on the outside of the box, and I bet there's a flyer inside (although if you read it before using the phone is another matter). Opening the box is irrelevent unless the T&C say by breaking the seal you accept the T&C enclosed and you cannot read the T&C until you've broke the seal. If it's on a piece or paper and the phone says on the screen by using the phone you accept the T&C on the paper then you had the option of returning it and didn't. Not sure exactly what it says onthere as by the time it go to me it was already in use.
I doubt o2 will chase you but thats not the point.0 -
would really like to know how to get this without a contract. I just looked at the O2 website, where it states the following:
http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/iphonetariffs
subject to signing a 18 months contract...mmmh0 -

I dont think O2 can cope, I ordered one yesterday, then changed my mind so called up to cancel it - they asked why - I said I didnt want an 18 month contract. They then cancelled the order and apparently credited my credit card - then late yesterday I got an email saying my iphone had been dispatched...
I guess I will now have to pay to send it back :mad:0 -
Hypothetically, if you did buy the iPhone and didnt go for the 18 month contract how would you use the internet facility and would it be expensive ?0

We got 2 (one per card CPW rules) yesterday, no contract, nothing, manager knows us, threw in a free screen protector as well. We've got info to unlock it as well~*Cerenia*~

I know Boingo is quite reasonable around £4/month - not sure about compatibility, says you need to download their app. and iphone not listed. The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Hmmm it's tempting that's for sure. But now there are just too many options!
These are the options as I see it:
Buy from o2 store for £169 and pay an unknown amount per month to a third party to use it as an ipod(can anyone give me a rough price for this on a like for like basis?) Amount saved = £100+
Buy it from o2 online via quidco for £169 and get £100 cashback with a £35 a month contract. Amount saved = £200
Buy a 16GB model from o2 as an upgrade for £170 (my Dad did this just last month) on a £35 contract but effectively saving £159 on the price of the higher capacity model. Amount saved = £99 but gained the higher spec iphone
Wait a month and pay full whack for a 3G model (but possibly get it at upgrade price). Amount saved = probably diddly squat, I'd have 3G but is that really worth losing out on £200 or more in savings?0 -
Is the price drop due to low sales, memory becoming cheaper, or because there might be a 3g version on the way?0
