I have some questions:
What dog do you have?
A funny little mongrel, possibly corgi/jack russell/collie, female about 4 or 5 - see pic below!
Why did you get your dog?
Because I enjoy having a dog, training it, walking with it, and I feel that rescuing a dog is generally a good thing to do. As up to 17, 000 healthy unwanted dogs are destroyed every year in the uk. As a dog lover, if I can save one, and offer it a good home, I think I should!
Where did you get it?
Mayflower Sanctuary - they were great and have some beautiful dogs, all of which are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped! Rescuing a dog is also much more moneysaving than buying one!!http://www.mayflowersanctuary.com/
What does it eat?
Wagg Working Dog - £9.50 for 17kg sack.
How much does it cost you weekly?
Wagg Food lasts us over 12 weeks, so less than £1 a week for food
Halifax Pet Insurance - under £2 a week
Poop bags free from district council!
Worming and flea drops twice a year, perhaps a tenner per year, so pennies per week.
Vaccinations - about £20, every year to 18 months, so just over a quid a month.
Grooming - nothing if you get a dog with a sensible coat, not one of those fluffy things!
Total - probably about £4 a week!
When you first get a dog, you also need to get a dog bed, food bowls, lead and collar, name disc etc, but these do not cost a fortune and are a one off expenditure.
Do you leave it alone?
Yes, she is quite happy and tends to sleep when in alone, but she gets plenty of exercise inbetween.
Work/holiday arrangements?
She goes to my dads for a holiday! I arrange for someone to let her out for a wee if I am going to be out for a really long day.
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)?
I do lots of walking with her, and train her to do various tricks. I would like to do agility with her, but cannot find anywhere locally.
Anything else you'd like to say.
yes, she is lovely and I really enjoy having a dog, but I would never buy a dog from a breeder when there are so many unwanted dogs out there. Also only take a dog on if you can commit to caring for it, although, the very fact that you are asking dog owners these questions is a sensible start! :T I hope my answers have been helpful
Good luck!0 -

Work/holiday arrangements? Work - as above. Holidays - been away once since getting him and the holiday was as much for him as us (cottage in Devon).
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? No, but plenty of walks and fun in the garden.
Anything else you'd like to say.0 -

How much does it cost you weekly? We buy 15kg bags probaby works out about £4pw ,, spend alot more on "extras"
Do you leave it alone? Yes, time varies between 5min and 8 hours.
Work/holiday arrangements? OH tries to return home during lunch hour to let the dog have a pee. My parents look after dog during holidays.
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? No specific activities, but he does enjoy playing football with my OH.
Anything else you'd like to say. If your dog begins to chase his tail, bite his anus or scoot along the floor, visit the vet asap. It will probably be his anus glands and they only get worse if left untreated!"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -
I have some questions:
What dog do you have? 1 Collie Cross, 1 German Shepherd
Why did you get your dog? Always had dogs, the house felt empty after our last german shepherd died.
Where did you get it? Collie from leighs cats and dogs home, Shepherd from a breeder
What does it eat? The shepherd will eat chicken from the oven, frozen meat pies from the freezer, but we do buy them tinned food mixed with meal
How much does it cost you weekly? at the most £10 a week for both of them
Do you leave it alone? yes although it's no generally for as long as we used to, at the most 6 hours due to shifts that we work.
Work/holiday arrangements? my parents go away, I look after them, our collie cross used to go to kennels when she was younger, but our german shepherd wouldn't be able to.
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? collie was trained for 2 years in obedience (now she thinks about whether she'll obey you at the age of 13) and the shepherd, well he falls asleep doing down stay, he's not the brightest and if his head is hiding behind your legs, it means nobody can see him.
Anything else you'd like to say. As often as my collie could run off and as daft as my shepherd is, I wouldn't change them for the world. Every dog has it's own personality.0 -
