Why did you get your dog? Always had a dog

Where did you get it? Seperate breeders in SOuth Yorks

What does it eat? Dry food, with small amounts of chicken mince

How much does it cost you weekly? £7 per week inc food, insurance & treats

Do you leave it alone? Alone for 4hrs a day - Little Tom has large puppy crate in kitchen - went for a bath one evening, came back downstairs and the coffee table only had 3 legs:rolleyes: !!!!!!!

Work/holiday arrangements? In kennels once a year for 2 weeks - luckily neither dog has a problem with this

What dog do you have? Lurcher Collie Cross

Why did you get your dog? Wanted one for ages and someone was just giving her away when she was only 7 weeks old

Where did you get it? Freecycle

What does it eat? Puppy food atm

How much does it cost you weekly? £7 approx

Do you leave it alone? Not if i can help it

    Work/holiday arrangements? Family

Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? Walks and pays with kiddies

Anything else you'd like to say. A dog is for life
  • What dog do you have? 2 Cairn Terriers

Why did you get your dog? Always had dogs, the house (and life) is too quiet without them

Where did you get it? Both from breeders

What does it eat? Raw meat. One of my dogs has serious allergies and can't eat any kind of manufactured dog food or cooked meat. Took a lot of messing about to find this out but he's a changed dog on the raw stuff.

How much does it cost you weekly? Anything between £5 and £10 depending on what sort of meat I buy (that's between them, not each)

Do you leave it alone? They are sometimes alone but only for a few hours at a time usually. No problems there (they have crates and love to go in them)

Work/holiday arrangements? I don't work at the moment (study from home) but when I start I will just leave them the run of the downstairs. If we go on holiday we take them with us

Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? Just basic sit, stay, leave etc stuff

Anything else you'd like to say.
Start as you mean to go on. A puppy nipping and barking may be cute but it aint so cute when it's got bigger teeth and a louder voice!

What dog do you have? A GSD x (3yrs) George and a Staffie x (1 yr) Amber

Why did you get your dog? Got George for some low impact exercise and no idea why we got Amber (seems a good idea at the time).

Where did you get it? Both from Dogs Trust (note to self - never go to Dogs Trust "just for a look" again)

What does it eat? Both on Skinners dog food

How much does it cost you weekly? No idea

Do you leave it alone? I work part time, Amber is crated, george can be trusted!

Work/holiday arrangements? as above, friends for holidays

Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? George has been going flyball for about a year and has recently started competing, Amber has just started, George has also started Agility
Anything else you'd like to say. Two dogs are more that 3 times the work of 2 especially when one is quite young. (Love them both anyway!)

I have a tri-colour border collie called Mack, he is 10 months old. We bought him from a breeder in June 2008. We lost our old dog Lady 2 weeks before Xmas 2007. We were so lonely without her and felt stupid going out for a walk without a dog.
Mack is my best mate. I talk to him all the while and I even answer for him. For example when I get home from work:
ME: Have you been a good boy?
MACK: I try mum, I really do, but the bin just fell out of the cupboard and I was trying to clear it up for you.

I have pet names for him depending on what he's doing. For example
    Big Chief Crazy Pooch
    McPooch
    Ole beedy eyes

We feed Mack on Wagg and he has cocktail sausages and pigs ears in the fridge for treats. He has been chipped and snipped.
I work from 9am to 3pm and he is home alone all that time (well with the two moggies Lily and Olivier). But I do take him out in the morning before work and as soon as I get in, hubby takes him out in the evening.
Mack loves playing catch and has his own toybox. However, he also likes gardening
I couldn't imagine life without him now. When we go on holdiay later in the year our son who still lives at home will be looking after him. But back when we had Lady and our son came on holiday with us, my sister moved in for two weeks.
One thing I would advise anyone who gets a pup or rehome dog for the first time is to take them to doggy school, it makes it much easier to anticipate and control their behaviour.

    I have some questions:

What dog do you have? Three German Shepherds, 2 dogs aged 10 and 4, one female aged approx 12

Why did you get your dog? I had one years ago and after the kids grew up and I had more time decided to get another, and another, and another :D

Where did you get it? The dogs from different breeders and the female from Abandoned Animals.

What does it eat? James Wellbeloved dry food

How much does it cost you weekly? Just did a category check on Quicken and horrified to report £45 per week  . That includes everything, food, ins, boosters, toys, new coats bought for xmas - the list goes on.

Do you leave it alone? Only when I go shopping etc, and when I split the walking leaving one or two at home.

Work/holiday arrangements? ??????? What are holidays?????

Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? No just long walks & hurtling around after a ball on a rope - the youngster. Elderly two happy with daily long walks in the woods or on the beach.

    Anything else you'd like to say. {quote}

We love them to bits and they give me the incentive to wander in woods, up hills and down dales. Without them I'd be just too lazy.
