What dog do you have?
A wonderful German Shepherd called Jay
Why did you get your dog?
because my last GSD Samantha had died the previous year and I wanted to rescue another one in tribute to her.
Where did you get it?
Rain rescue in Rotherham
What does it eat?
Purina one and winalot roasts
How much does it cost you weekly?
I've never worked it out, but i suppose on food - £15.00
Disability things for him e.g. matting, foam mattresses, lifting harness - I dare not even think about the cost of those.
Special tablets which are not available under my pet insurance £25.00 per month.
Vitamins and supplements used in conjunction with tablets - £14.00.
*checks pennies in purse and shakes head* - but he's worth every penny.
Do you leave it alone?
Not often and never more than 3 hours - my dog is disabled
Work/holiday arrangements?
I work from home and wont leave him to go on holiday
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)?
He has cdrm so cant run, he does enjoy gentle exercise in his cart.
Anything else you'd like to say.
I'd like to encourage anyone who has the time and patience to take on a disabled dog, yes its hard work, but the rewards are worth every bit of effort you put in.
Also before taking on a dog, make sure you can afford the food and insurance or vets costs and make sure you are prepared for the amount of exercise you should be giving your dog each day.

What dog do you have? A 13month cross, Nipper (thinking a poodle with tibetan terrier or shnauzer) and a 5month cairn terrier, Rose.
Why did you get your dog? I inhertited Nip when my dad died, got Rose as company for Nip
Where did you get it? Dad got Nip from a farm, we got Rose from a farm as well
What does it eat? Both eat tinned food
How much does it cost you weekly? About £7 a week for food.
Do you leave it alone? Yeah but only for a few hours a week when food shopping
Work/holiday arrangements? I don't have to work so always at home, don't holiday without them.
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? Just long walks and playing in the garden
Anything else you'd like to say. I was kind of forced into having Nip but don't regret it at all, don't know where i'd be without him. We got Rose to calm Nip down and it worked a treat. Both are treated like our own! But do think a lot before commiting, definately get insurance as Nip has just had a major operation.
Rose on the left, Nip on the right0 -
I have some questions:
What dog do you have? A Border terrier-patterdale terrier cross
Why did you get your dog? cos we both love dogs, and OH was working nights, so it was company for me
Where did you get it? advert on epupz when he was 12 weeks old
What does it eat? anything and everything! normally a mix of dry food and tinned food, with a few doggy treats aday! and a tin of sardines on sunday which he loves! if hes with my parents then he gets spoilt rotten, getting all the leftovers from brekkie lunch and dinner, despite my requests not to
How much does it cost you weekly? not much, about £5. have recently moved so am going to buy a big bag of dry food from the local pet shop and wean him off tinned food onto a better dry food.
Do you leave it alone? he is alone during the day, as OH is now working days, but he copes ok. i try and pop home at lunch times if possible to let him have some fresh air.
Work/holiday arrangements? stays at home in the kitchen when we are in work, or if my parents have a day off then they will take him out. They would also look after him if we go on holiday too.
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? walk him daily, take him for a good run onthe beach and around the sand dunes every weekend. am thinking of doing some agility training with him as he is very quick and agile and i think he'd be really good at it. Until then, he has a very good run around the garden every morning and night, when he's like a loon, and that seems to keep him happy!
Anything else you'd like to say. He's nuts!0 -
I have some questions:
What dog do you have? Greyhound
Why did you get your dog? Replaced ex-husband with a Dishwasher and a Greyhound; wanted company; Mother not allergic to him..
Where did you get it? Retired Greyhound Trust 2 years ago
What does it eat? Raw Chicken Wings & scraps
How much does it cost you weekly? Food £7-8 Insurance £4.50 Other stuff £2
Do you leave it alone? For up to 5 hours
Work/holiday arrangements? Comes to work and snoozes in corner. He either comes on holidays with me or goes to my Parents or Kennels - which he loves..
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? Running about at 50 mph on the beach? Sleeping..
Anything else you'd like to say. I'm afraid to say I never really liked dogs as my Mother is allergic to them but my Greyhound isn't a dog - he's a Hound... He is as lazy as my cats but far more adoring and rewarding. Get a greyhound - there's thousands that need good homes.. Changed my life for the better..0 -
I have some questions:
What dog do you have? Bichon Frise
Why did you get your dog? I moved into a new place and didn't want to be lonely!
Where did you get it? West Wales
What does it eat? Dog food!!! and steamed fish, chicken and rice
How much does it cost you weekly? Anything from £5-£8
Do you leave it alone? Yes, but no longer than 3/4 hours
Work/holiday arrangements? My mum has him whenever I go away - It would break my heart to put him in a kennel
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? We race each other in the park, but he always wins!!
Anything else you'd like to say.
Charlie is 3 years old now (hoping to be 4 in January!!!!) andI paid £350.00 for him. If I had the slightest idea how much joy and love I would get from him I would have paid that 10 times over. He's hard work and very spoilt (which is my own fault), but I wouldn't change him for the world. He's my little angel. If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0 -

What dog do you have?
A Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever!
Why did you get your dog?
Always wanted one since leaving home. Twenty years on and thought it was time to stop the excuses and get one.
Where did you get it?
Breeders - Fallowfen
What does it eat?
CSJ Pet Food. Natural.
How much does it cost you weekly?
Hardly anything now, although we spent alot at the beginning on crates, bedding, bowls, toys, outside kennel, and materials for his run!
Now, a huge bag of food from CSJ is about £20 and that lasts for about 2-3 months. We make our own treats.
Do you leave it alone?
All the time but never more than 3 hours in the house as we work from home during the week. He either sleeps or just sits there listening to the radioFrom since he was a pup, we were careful not to return to him when he moaned. We tend to take him with us in the car when we work at the weekend as we can be on the road for 15 hours at a time. He just sleeps in the back of the car, occasionally nods his head to the music, and gets excited when we stop cause he knows he's going to get to explore a new place!
Work/holiday arrangements?
Cancelled our summer holiday abroad cause he was a pup and dare not leave him in kennels just yet but went to Lake District camping with him instead - just as much if not MORE fun! I work abroad alot so unfortuntely the other half can't come with me anymore, but it's all good - I tend to get home quicker
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)?
No, although we have definitely considered going to agility classes. Wouldn't mind teaching him the art of music production (my job) but he seems more interested in chewing the cables than pressing the keys on a keyboard!
Anything else you'd like to say.
We love him!!!0 -
What dog do you have? Staffordshire Bull Terrier x
Why did you get your dog? Had wanted another dog since the family pet ran away when I was almost 7 years old. Kept putting it off thinking maybe in the future & that right now I don't have the right accommodation for one etc then thought one day why not now, not all breeds need huge homes!
Where did you get it? Rescue
What does it eat? JWB 170g dry + 1 x 150g pouch per day + 1 Dentastix
How much does it cost you weekly? Umm no idea? lol She's on free insurance for the first 6 weeks then will be insured for the year in advance. Think about £7 a week in food?
Do you leave it alone? Yes, maybe 2-3x a week for no more than 4hrs & if I nip to the shop for maybe 10 minutes as I refuse to tie her up outside. If I go out for longer she either goes to spend the day with a lady in the village at her home or someone comes in to see her & walk her. When back at work, if over 4hrs someone will come in daily to walk her after a few hours.
Do you do anything with it (agility/flyball etc)? Not yet but should be starting Hydrotherapy & Obedience in January & hope to do Flyball &/or Agility if I can find anywhere close enough or someone to take me! Walks 3x/2hrs a day.
Anything else you'd like to say. Just so happy to finally have a dog in my life again! Get a rescue if possible, they are so worth it & so glad of a home!0 -
